After discussing some of the high points from her career, Lorraine's fashion correspondent Mark Heyes revealed that he had a message for her from two very special people.

It was in fact Lorraine's mum and dad, who made a rare public appearance via a recorded video.

As they discussed their daughter's decades-long career, her mum said, “We think the world of her, we don’t say it as much as we should. We’re not ‘lovey-dovey’... She knows we love her.

"We’re very proud of her.”

As the camera panned back to Lorraine in the studio, she looked visibly emotional with tears in her eyes. The presenter admitted tearfully, “I can’t believe you got my mum and dad to do that!”

Earlier in the show, Piers also question 59-year-old Lorraine about how she stays looking so brilliant - with the host revealing that she thinks it's mostly down to genetics.

Lorraine confessed, “I don’t take care of myself, really. I try really hard. I like a glass of wine!

"I do [Zumba], it's hot and sweaty, I do that… it’s motivation. I’ve inherited from my mum, she’s got amazing skin, and she looks really good, I think it’s that.”

As the programme came to a close, Lorraine also made sure to thank her team behind-the-scenes, saying, “You are only as good as your team and my team are the best team ever.

"Thank you to them and thank you to all of you who have been watching for 35 years, which is quite remarkable!”
