The ceremony came as a shock to many, especially as the couple had sent out save the date cards to friends and family for next July.

The wedding, which sources believe the couple had been planning for six months, means Boris Johnson is the first Prime Minister for over 200 years to marry while in office.

Last April the couple welcomed their first child together - a baby boy named Wilfred. It was the first baby for Carrie, but the fifth for Boris as he shares four children with his ex-wife Marina Wheeler.
