First impressions

Rosie for Autograph bras have been my go-to for years for a high-end look at an affordable, high-street price. My lingerie drawer is brimming with past seasons’ offerings and I was pleased to see that the quality hasn’t slipped and is just as good now as it’s always been.

For this review, I tested a printed full-cup bra and was chuffed to find the colours were as vibrant as they looked on the website. This might sound like a silly thing, but I’m always staggered by how many pieces, from different brands, don’t match up to their online images. Rose-gold hardware on the strap adjusters and back clasp is a really lovely touch, too.

How supportive is the Rosie for Autograph Silk & Lace Underwired Full Cup Bra?

This is a very typical full-cup bra, which provides plenty of coverage and lots of support. It’s lightly padded – just enough to give a moulded feel to the cups (and disguise your nipples) without boosting your bust dramatically.

The straps are thin, but still manage to give your bust enough support – a welcome contrast to other full-coverage brands, which tend to have very wide straps that not only feel bulky but are also trickier to hide under clothes.

Thanks to the high-quality fabrics, the Rosie for Autograph Underwired Full Cup Bra is a joy to wear.

The silk fabric is only present on the outside of the bra, but the lining is smooth, soft and sits comfortably against your skin.

On first inspection, it might seem M&S has scrimped by not giving the bra a silk back, too, but the saving grace of mesh is there’s no need to worry about marking it with a sweaty back – a very real consideration for me as I tested this bra during a heatwave. Is there any better marker of how comfy and reliable a bra really is than sweltering temperatures?

The shoulder straps are made from silk, perfectly toeing the line between being soft and dig-free enough for long days, but not so slippery that they’ll slide off your shoulders.

What is the shape and appearance like?

Rosie for Autograph Silk & Lace Underwired Full Cup Bra sits high on the bust, fully encapsulating your breasts. If that’s not for you, look out for the other signature shapes within the range, including plunge and balcony.

While the styles tend to remain the same year on year, they are reworked and refreshed in pretty new colourways and prints each season.

What are the washing instructions?

To keep the silk at its just-bought best, we’d recommend taking the time to hand wash your bras, either in the machine or in the bath. Having said that, the washing labels do say it’s suitable for gentle machine wash at a maximum of 40° – handy for busy days.

Once clean, lay your bra flat and leave to air dry. Ironing or tumble-drying will cause damage to the delicate fabric.
