With the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022 celebrations almost upon us, the Royal Family has been taking to social media to honor this extraordinary milestone in a very special way. Though the full schedule of jubilee events, including an iconic appearance from certain members of the extended Royal Family on the Buckingham Palace balcony, will take place in June, in the 70 days leading up to these a different photo has been posted. Each photo has been taken during a different year of the Queen’s reign.
But whilst many of these nostalgic pictures such as the one that saw the Queen celebrate moments for women are joyful, the latest installment in the 70 for 70 series is somewhat bittersweet…

In the Queen’s throwback snap she appears beaming in a peach-toned hat and a striking blue and peach patterned jacket and dress that perfectly complements her choice of accessory. Adding a touch more royal glamor to this sophisticated look was one of the Queen’s brooches pinned neatly to her tailored jacket.
“👑 𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟕: Her Majesty inspects The Queen’s Body Guard of the Yeoman of the Guard at Buckingham Palace,” the caption declared. “Dressed in their distinctive Tudor uniforms of red, white and yellow, the Yeomen are different to the ‘Beefeaters’ and have a ceremonial role in many Royal events.”
Many fans were quick to express their delight at seeing such a joyful throwback snap, with one writing, “Beautiful smile your majesty👏”.
“Her smile is such a joy to see”, a second fan shared.

And as we’ve come to expect, the 70 for 70 post also revealed another historic moment that took place that year as they described how Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was first published in 1997. However, 1997 was also a year of devastation as the Royal Family and people across the globe mourned the death of Princess Diana that August.
Taking to the comments on the Queen’s throwback snap, fans remembered the late Princess of Wales’ tragic loss.
“In 1997, the most beautiful thing the British monarchy had ever died, LaDy Diana, we will never forget her,” one person wrote poignantly.
Another responded simply, “#diana #1997” as someone else replied simply, “Lady Diana”.
In 2021 Princess Diana fans shared heartfelt tributes and Prince William and Prince Harry reunited to unveil a Princess Diana statue at Kensington Palace on what would’ve been her 60th birthday. Speaking about the unveiling in a heart-breaking post shared on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Instagram page, they remarked upon her life and legacy.
"Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy”, they declared.
