The Queen has celebrated landmark moments for women as Europe prepares to mark two major milestones this year.
- Her Majesty will soon enjoy her Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June, months before Queen Margrethe of Denmark marks those for her Golden Jubilee.
- The Royal Family have now shared a stunning throwback snap of the two Queens ahead of these important occasions.
- This royal news comes as it was revealed that Prince William's subtle gesture demonstrates Prince George's position in the Royal Family.
The Queen is one of the most prominent women in power to this day and made history earlier this year when she became the first British monarch to reign for 70 years. The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year officially began on the anniversary of her ascension in February, but the main celebrations have yet to begin. Over the bank holiday in June, Her Majesty and the extended Royal Family will mark this huge milestone with everything from a Trooping the Color parade to a Platinum Jubilee concert.
But she isn’t the only one for whom 2022 is special and the Queen honored a fellow European monarch’s equally impressive milestone with a beautiful throwback photo.

For the 70 days leading up to the Jubilee weekend, the Royal Family have been sharing a different stunning snap taken during the past seven decades. These ranged from the Queen’s “monumental” throwback photo taken during a devastating year to the picture that really showcased the Queen’s 70s accessory.
The latest in this intriguing series was truly a celebration of landmark moments for women as it showed Her Majesty making an always-exciting balcony appearance. But unlike those often seen at Buckingham Palace, this one took place at the Amalienborg Palace.
“👑 𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟗: During a State Visit to Denmark, The Queen joins Queen Margrethe, The Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Henrik on the balcony of the Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen,” the caption declared.
It then went on to explain, “2022 is also a special year for Queen Margrethe, who is celebrating her Golden Jubilee”, before reminding fans that 1979 when the photo was taken was the same year Margaret Thatcher became “the first female British Prime Minister”.
Just like the Queen, throughout this year Queen Margrethe of Denmark will also be enjoying certain events to mark her Jubilee. Though her balcony appearances, thanksgiving service and gala dinner and gala performance are set to be held in September, three months after Queen Elizabeth’s jubilee weekend.
Meanwhile, the decision to include this important fact about the late Margaret Thatcher is also very enlightening. Over the years reports have claimed the Queen had a complicated relationship with the former PM with some alleging that the only time Princess Margaret saw the Queen cry was amid the supposed tension.
However, the Queen’s throwback post highlighting not only her own milestone year, but that of Queen Margrethe and Margaret Thatcher too is a thoughtful way to mark so many landmark moments.
It comes just a few months after Queen Margrethe met with the Queen’s granddaughter-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge, also at the Amalienborg Palace, which showcased the enduring bond between these two European royal dynasties.
