Prince Harry breaks down during speech as he remembers sweet moment during Duchess of Sussex’s pregnancy
This is so emotional...
Prince Harry broke down during a speech at an awards ceremony as he reminisced about a very special moment during the Duchess of Sussex’s pregnancy.
- The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the WellChild Awards last night, a charity of which Prince Harry is a patron of.
- While making a speech during the ceremony, the prince welled up as he remembered a very sweet moment during Duchess Meghan’s pregnancy with baby Archie.
- This follows royal news that the Queen broke tradition during State Opening of Parliament.
The charity helps seriously ill children spend time out of hospital and return home to be with their families.
The Duke of Sussex has been attending the yearly awards ceremony that celebrates the children, their families and the people who support them for over a decade, but this year he became more emotional as it marks his first one as a dad.
During a speech, he broke down as he remembered attending the awards last year and knowing that he was going to become a dad, before the news were made public.
“My wife and I feel incredibly privileged to be able to join you once again at this year’s WellChild Awards, and to be in a room with such amazing human beings”, he said.

"Yet this year, it resonates in a different way, because now I’m a father.
“Last year when my wife and I attended we knew we were expecting our first child - no one else did at the time, but we did - and I remember…”
“Sorry,” he laughed as he became overwhelmed with emotion, before continuing, “I remember squeezing Meghan’s hand so tight during the awards, both of us thinking what it would be like to be parents one day, and more so, what it would be like to do everything we could to protect and help our child should they be born with immediate challenges or become unwell over time.
“And now, as parents, being here and speaking to all of you pulls at my heart strings in a way I could have never understood until I had a child of my own.”
The dad continued to say that the children and families he’s met through the charity have inspired him with hope, optimism and strength, despite their difficult circumstances.
“No parent wants to hear that their child will suffer; that they will face extraordinary challenges that will affect them throughout their lives”, he added.
“And yet, after meeting all of the WellChild parents and the kids themselves over the years, you’ve managed to give all of us a sense of optimism, a sense of hope and strength that no professional, no bestselling book and no amount of advice can ever give any of us.
"So thank you for being you.”
