Princess Charlotte’s fifth birthday celebrated with photos taken by the Duchess of Cambridge

New photos have been released of Princess Charlotte to mark her fifth birthday.

The snaps were taken by her mother the Duchess of Cambridge - who has made it a tradition to share portraits of her children on their birthdays.

One of the photos shows the young royal smiling into the camera, while another shows her glancing downwards.

Kensington Palace shared one of the new images on Twitter this morning, with the caption: 'Thank you for all your lovely messages on Princess Charlotte’s fifth birthday! The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share a new photograph of Princess Charlotte, taken by The Duchess this April.'

Of course, the adorable new pictures quickly caught the attention of doting royal fans.

One replied to the tweet: ‘Beautiful, poignant and gorgeous- happy 5th birthday Princess Charlotte.’

While another said: ‘I think she looks so much like Her Majesty the Queen.’

Charlotte volunteered, along with parentsthe Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and her brothers Prince George and Prince Louis, delivering food to those in need.

One photo shows the little one holding a bag of fresh pasta as she knocks on the door of an elderly resident.

The palace has revealed that over the past few weeks the Queen’s Sandringham staff have been preparing and delivering meals for pensioners and vulnerable people living in the local area.

Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge was born at the private maternity Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington at 8.34am on May 2nd 2015, weighing 8lb 3oz.
