Top Gun: Maverick has officially smashed a new box office record and has knocked Titanic from its long-standing position.

When Titanic was released in 1997, fans were obsessed with this historically based romantic movie and it became one of the most popular films to ever be released. Titanic was one of the most successful movies in box office history as it earned $600.7 million on its initial 1997 release and then earned $659 million with re-releases.

This success has meant that Titanic has been the seventh-Highest Grossing Release in domestic box office history, until just recently.

It was revealed that Top Gun: Maverick has knocked this crown from Titanic's metaphorical head and has become the new seventh most successful release in domestic box office history. In its initial release, the film has so far earned $662 million in ticket sales, a number significantly higher than Titanic sales.

When it comes to international box offices, Titanic is more successful than Top Gun : Maverick as the romantic drama earned $1.5 billion at the international box office and $2.2 billion globally.

According to Variety, Top Gun: Maverick's international box office sales are at $690 million, and the global sales have grossed $1.3 billion to date.

Based on domestic earnings at the box office, the most successful film of all time are in order; 2015's Star Wars Ep. VII: The Force Awakens, 2019's Avengers: Endgame, 2021's Spiderman: No Way Home, 2009's Avatar, 2018's Black Panther, 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, 2022's Top Gun: Maverick, and then in eighth place, 1997's Titanic.

When Top Gun will be released on DVD / Streaming

Top Gun: Maverick was released in cinemas on May 27, 2022, in the US and UK. It has been in the cinemas for many weeks and was produced by Paramount Pictures.

It can be expected that the show will soon appear on the streaming site Paramount + when the film has finished its run in theatres. This is because the film was produced by Paramount, so it is unlikely that they would make a deal with Netflix or other streaming sites to show their original content first.

It is also thought that the movie will be available to rent or buy online streaming retailers starting August 23. This will not be included in regular packages and will be an additional fee on top of your streaming payment.
