Restaurant Review: Royal China

Where? Award-winning chain serving traditional dim sum and Cantonese food across London, we visited Royal China’s flagship restaurant at 24-26 Baker Street, London W1U 3BZ.

When? We popped in for dinner early in the week, but it was still packed!

What we ate? Lots! We started with a selection of small plates, including spicy baby squid and seaweed. The spicy shredded smoked chicken and Vietnamese pancake rolls were great. Famous for dim sum but with a limited selection at dinner, we ate the steamed chilli pork dumplings and grilled vegetarian dumplings followed by sautéed prawns with red chilli sauce, Szechuan-style, as well as Cantonese honey roasted pork, sautéed Chinese broccoli with ginger and steamed rice.

Food envy? The next table had whole steamed sea bass that smelt fab and looked really fresh.

What’s it like inside? Much larger than expected, but dark with lots of ornate gold detail.

Any gossip? Celeb fans include Beyonce and Sam Smith, but no celeb spots for us this time.

You’ll like it here if you like… Cantonese cuisine and dim sum.

Starters from £4.80, mains from £9.50.
