  • Where? Relaxed and stylish modern brassiere and bar, Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings is at 42 Northampton Row, London, EC1R 0HU.

When? Relatively new, it opened last September. We tried the brunch menu on a lazy Saturday.

What we ate? They have all the classic brunch options but also some with clever twists, which we had to go for… The huevos benedictos; an English muffin topped with avocado, chorizo and a drizzle of Béarnaise sauce – a very tasty combination. The salt beef crispy potato was a real hit with both of us; potato chunks fried with tender salt beef and crispy shallots topped with a poached duck egg and tangy HP hollandaise. Pretty rich, but incredibly delicious.

Food envy?  The bottomless Bloody Mary made with tequila and extra chilli will definitely be on my order next time, but the Seville orange Buck’s Fizz was more than respectable as an alternative.

What’s it like inside? The interior is super chic. It has that out of Africa look; ferns and flower arrangements scattered around the room, mismatched furniture; wicker chairs, printed high back sofas, marble table tops and dark wood chairs. The greenhouse section or a stool at the bar are the best spots.

Any gossip? They also run Blitz party events, glamorous 1940s themed nights with the costume, music and swing dancing to match.

You’ll like it here if you like…
A seriously good cocktail and modern English flavours.

Brunch dishes from £3.50, cocktails from £7.50 and bottomless cocktails from £15
