Learn how to make chocolate sauce, perfect for drizzling over ice cream, fresh fruit or even use as an icing once it’s cooled down.
Making chocolate sauce couldn’t be easier. It really adds the finishing touch to a dessert, or you can use it to make your own last minute dessert. Pour it over fresh or frozen fruit to take it up to dessert level, or spoon over ice cream for that lovely hot-cold effect. It just goes to show that preparing a dessert can be hassle-free and we show you how in this short video.
Once the sauce has cooled down a little, you can even use it to ice a cake as it goes on really smoothly and will make your cake that bit more special.
A simple chocolate sauce can make a dessert look and taste more sophisticated, especially drizzled over profiteroles (extra points if you make your own). It’s such a simple creation but so comforting too, and it’s a nice little treat especially when the weather’s miserable.
Follow our step-by-step video guide on how to make delicious chocolate sauce and whip it up in minutes at home yourself.
You will need:
- 100g dark chocolate, finely chopped
- 25g unsalted butter
- 2tbsp golden syrup

To begin, put 100g finely chopped dark chocolate along with 25g unsalted butter in a heatproof bowl above a pan of gently simmering water, making sure the bowl isn’t touching the water. Add 2 tablespoons golden syrup and leave to melt together.
Once you’ve added a splash of water, everything should start melting together nicely. Don’t be tempted to stir it at this stage. Make sure you just leave it as it is until the chocolate cubes have completely melted. Once this has happened, whisk it all together until you have a thick glossy sauce.
Once it reaches this consistency, you can pour over ice cream, fruit or any dessert of your choice!
