Sophie Wessex's sweet surprise for NHS frontline workers revealed

Sophie Wessex has been secretly volunteering for the NHS and now she's joined Nourish our Nurses for International Nurses Day.

How did Sophie Wessex surprise NHS staff?

Sophie went the extra mile with her volunteer work, adding a special surprise to the bags.

The countess added gold envelopes containing additional treats inside, including vouchers for afternoon tea and beauty treatments.

Sophie also joined the Duchess of Cambridge to call nurses around the world.

Kate and Sophie video called nurses in Queensland, Australia from their homes in Norfolk and Surrey.

They also spoke with staff at the Aberdeen Women's Centre in Sierra Leone and LV Prasad Eye Institute in India - both of which Countess Sophie has visited.

The Countess of Wessex's latest act of kindness for frontline workers comes after she teamed up with TV duo Ant and Dec to support the NHS.

They joined forces in order to open the new NHS Nightingale Hospital in Sunderland, built to treat the influx of patients infected with the coronavirus.

Speaking from her Surrey home, which she shares with Prince Edward and their children Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn, the Countess dubbed the hospital a “beacon of care, a beacon of reassurance, of strength, of compassion and a beacon of innovation.

“It is a representation of the combined capability of many individuals and organisations, as well as a wonderful reflection of Sunderland’s industrious spirit.

“Your determination, teamwork and skill has resulted in a hospital that will help to provide care to anyone in need.

"You have demonstrated that we are meeting the challenge of COVID-19 head on.

“On behalf of the nation and the North East community who you stand ready to serve, thank you for making all of this possible,” she said to those helping in the battle against the health crisis.
