'She burst into tears': Why Sophie Wessex found this NHS visit emotional

Sophie Wessex 'burst into tears' in front of NHS midwives when she returned to the hospital where she gave birth to Lady Louise.

Why did Sophie Wessex find the visit so emotional?

During a new Channel 5 documentary, 'Edward & Sophie: The Reluctant Royals?' the emotional visit was discussed.

While meeting midwives at the hospital she gave birth to Lady Louise in, Sophie apparently burst into tears.

Sunday Times' royal correspondent Roya Nikkhah explained, "Louise was born a month premature, she was very, very small.

"Sophie was actually separated from her daughter for the first few days after she was born, which she found very, very difficult."

While Royal commentator Rebecca English said: "A few years ago, she went back to the Frimley Park Hospital and met one of the midwives that was responsible for helping her deliver Louise.

"Sophie just burst into tears. It was clearly still a very emotional experience for her. That is not something you often see on royal engagements.

"I think it was a sign of how deeply the experience had affected her and how much she owed the incredible NHS team at that hospital."

Lady Louise, now 16, was also born with esotropia, a condition that made her eyes turn inward which was later corrected with surgery.

Countess Sophie's husband, Prince Edward, missed their daughter's birth because he was away on a royal trip to Mauritius.

The couple welcomed their second child, James, Viscount Severn, at the same hospital four years later.
