Queen Elizabeth II and Sir David Attenborough, both 91, will be discussing all things nature in a one-off documentary special on ITV later this month.
We recently reported that the Queen had made big changes to plastic usage atBuckingham Palace after working with David on a conservation programme. ITV have now revealed details of s programme, titled The Queen’s Green Planet, in which Her Majesty discusses her ongoing project to create protected forests in all 53 Commonwealth countries.
The Queen will be interviewed by famed broadcaster and long-time friend, Sir David Attenborough, on her love for trees and saving the environment in the one-hour special.
She has already invited David to Buckingham Palace for the project, and, in the recently released clip, you can see the pair walking the palace grounds and some of the trees planted by members of the royal family over the years.
The Queen’s Green Planet gives viewers a rare glimpse of Her Majesty talking informally and joking with David. In the clip, as they walk past a rather squashed sapling, the Queen jokes, "that one we won't look at. Somebody sat on it, I think!"
Other members of the royal family appear in the documentary, including The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Canada’s Great Bear Rainforest, and Prince Harry planting trees in the Caribbean.
In the ITV special, Hollywood actress and activist Angelina Jolie also stars. She says of the Queen, "She's a really lovely lady who cares about the future."
In the ITV special, The Queen and David discuss everything from the Queen's hopes that her project will "help change the climate" for the better to birthday gifts. The Queen tells David, "I've been quite difficult to give presents to so...they've said, 'Oh, let's give her a plant'".
Woodland Trust Chair, Baroness Young, has praised The Queen, saying, "Trees are a cornerstone of our landscape and countryside, forming an essential and cherished part of our cultural identity.
“They look good, they do good and we are thrilled Her Majesty feels the same.”
We can’t wait to learn more about the Queen’s passion for plants and aims to protect the world’s forests, not to mention a sneak-peak at the beautiful grounds of Buckingham Palace!
The Queen’s Green Planet airs on ITV, Monday 16th April at 9pm.
