- Prince Charles received a sweet surprise while on his trip to Tokyo.
- The heir apparent met with the British ambassador in the Japan capital.
- In other royal news, the Duchess of Sussex revealed why husband Prince Harry crashed her royal engagement earlier this week.
Prince Charles went to Tokyo last week where he attended an event that was hosted by the UK ambassador to Japan.
To celebrate the relationship between Japan and the UK, Prince Charles joined ambassador Paul Madden and was also seen spending time with Paralympian Jon Amos and former Welsh rugby player Gareth Thomas.
And while the Prince was mingling with guests at the Tokyo event, it turns out that the ambassador had a little surprise in store for him.
Royal harpist Alis Huws, who is the official harpist to the Prince of Wales, appeared at the event to perform to the royal after being invited to play at the reception.
The musician was able to accept the exciting invitation as she is currently on a tour of Japan to participate in a cultural programme set up the Arts Council of Wales.
And Prince Charles seemed to be ecstatic at the musical surprise.
He was seen with a beaming smile on his face throughout the event, and even took to his social media account to share his excitement.
The Prince of Wales took to his Twitter account, Clarence House, to share a video of the talented musical act with his nearly 850,000 followers.
The lovely video, which managed to rake up nearly 12,000 views gave fans a snippet into the musical talents of Alis.
The royal captioned the video, ‘Alis Huws, The Prince of Wales’s official harpist, performed for guests at the reception. #RoyalVisitJapan
‘Alis is touring the country as part of a cultural programme organised by@WAICymruWales’.
Speaking about her role as royal harpist, Alis, who is the sixth person to take on the role, previously told the BBC, “I am passionate about my Welsh heritage and I would hope to use this platform to be an ambassador for our language, music and culture, whilst raising the profile of the harp in Wales and further afield.
“I’ve seen first hand how uplifting music can be and I am committed to furthering my work in this field.”

Aleesha has worked for woman&home since 2019, when she joined the team as their digital news writer. A year on the news team gained her quick and reactive writing skills and a love for breaking stories, invaluable insight into where to get the best lifestyle releases first, an AOP awards nomination and the nickname ‘crazy watch lady’ after she stalked the royals via breaking news alerts on her Apple Watch.
Before joining the woman&home team, Aleesha wrote for their sister site GoodtoKnow, where she covered celebrity news, health advice and where to snap up the cheapest lifestyle buys. With a background in beauty, Aleesha has also written for Stylist and Women’s Health where she developed an understanding into what makes a stellar product and which brands are worth paying attention to. She never leaves the house without a good slathering of SPF and is always on the hunt for new lipsticks to add to her ‘Lipstick of the Day’ Instagram story highlight (and color-coordinated collection).
But it’s not just beauty buys Aleesha can help you with. Social media savviness, strong PR relationships and a need to stay in the know mean she’s all about the latest fashions, clever gadgets and reliable lifestyle buys too. Being a product specialist on a brand for bold women (and living the single life) means that Aleesha also knows a thing or two about the must-buy sex toys, so she relishes in unleashing her inner Carrie Bradshaw on our sex & relationships pages.
When she’s not playing around with new products and testing anything she can get her hands on, Aleesha spends most of her time with her head in a current bestseller, catching up on the latest Netflix craze with her sister, trying out new recipes, drinking wine with her bestie and (in non-COVID times) has been known to be a bit of a jetsetter amongst her friendship group.
