Sex and the City fans have been left worried by new photos from And Just Like That, which appear to show Carrie scattering ashes in Paris.

As the premiere of the Sex and the City reboot creeps closer, fans are growing increasingly desperate to know just what’s to come in the revival of their favorite early noughties TV series.

The sequel of the HBO show, which originally aired from 1998 to 2004, will see Sarah Jessica Parker resume her iconic role as columnist Carrie Bradshaw for 10 new episodes of friendship drama, romantic twists, and of course, showstopping fashion. Since production began on the streets of Manhattan earlier this year, fans have been treated to a litany of sneak peeks of its upcoming plotlines from both cast members and curious pedestrians.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristen Davis are seen filming "And Just Like That..." the follow up series to "Sex and the City" on September 20, 2021 in New York City.

While Carrie’s fashion has received much of the press's attention (eyebrows have been raised, let's just say), there’s also been a lot of speculation about the fate of several of the show’s beloved characters.

A Sex and the City reboot video of a funeral scene captured by a New York local in August left fans convinced that Samantha, who was written out the script, has officially been killed off the series. Others speculated that the somber service was for Big, Carrie’s husband, with some even claiming he suffers a heart attack in the first episode.

However, recent sightings of Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth filming scenes for the reboot in Paris have added a new theory to the mix. The on-screen couple was spotted on Sunday evening on the Pont des Arts, a famous footbridge where loved ones write each other’s names on padlocks before locking them to the railings and tossing the key into the Seine river.

In one photo, Sarah Jessica (Carrie) can be seen alone, looking longingly down at the water whilst clutching a crystallized purse. The sad image has led multiple fans to deduce that she is "scattering ashes"—yes, ashes—from the purse into the Seine.

With Big well and truly alive in the other photos, some viewers have suggested it could be Samantha’s remains in the makeshift urn. There’s also some speculation that the purse holds her best friend Standford’s ashes, in light of the recent news that Willie Garson has died aged 57

However, others have proposed that it is Big’s remains and that his scenes are simply flashbacks of him when he was alive.

“Maybe Mr. Big is a ghost/memory?” one person wrote on Instagram.

"I feel like the shots of them together will be flashbacks 😢 and she will return to Paris on her own or with the girls to spread ashes," another predicted.

Not everyone was content with the idea of losing Big, who first appeared on the show in its pilot.

"Please, do not kill off Big. To me, his death = death of SATC for good," one hardcore fan wrote.

Looks like we'll have to wait until the premiere airs in December 2021 to find out just what's in that mysterious purse—let the countdown begin.
