Sex and the City's Willie Garson has died aged 57—Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon pay tribute

Willie Garson's death has been met with tributes from the Sex and the City cast and other A-listers

Sex and the City actor Willie Garson, who played Stanford Blatch on the HBO show, has passed away aged 57 after a private illness.

Willie was best known for his work on Sex and the City as Stanford Blatch and his work on White Collar as Mozzie.

Although his cause of death has not been revealed by his family. The executive producer of Sex and the City and the spin-off series And Just Like That, Michael Patrick King, has revealed that the star was suffering from an illness.

Michael said in a press release, “The Sex and the City family has lost one of its own. Our amazing Willie Garson,” 

Micheal went on to speak about Willie's work on And Just Like That as Willie was one of the actors confirmed for Sex and The City reboot.

“His spirit and his dedication to his craft was present every day filming And Just Like That. He was there—giving us his all—even while he was sick. His multitude of gifts as an actor and person will be missed by everyone. In this sad, dark moment we are comforted by our memory of his joy and light,” said the executive producer.

Members of the cast also took to social media to share their condolences. Cynthia Nixon posted on her Instagram, "So deeply, deeply sad we have lost @Willie.Garson. We all loved him and adored working with him. He was endlessly funny on-screen and in real life."

"He was a source of light, friendship and show business lore. He was a consummate professional—always. My heart goes out to his son, @Nathen_Garson."

"Nathen, I hope you know how much he loved you and how proud he was to be your dad."

Kim Cattrall also took to social media to share her condolences. Kim played Samantha Jones in the series and is one of the major characters who won't be returning to Sex and the City.

"Such sad news and a terribly sad loss to the SATC family. Our condolences and RIP dear Willie xo." said the actress.

Mario Cantone, who plays Stanford's husband, Anthony Maranthino in Sex and the City, also shared a sweet message on Twitter.

Mario said, "I couldn’t have had a more brilliant TV partner. I’m devastated and just overwhelmed with Sadness. Taken away from all of us way soon. You were a gift from the gods. Rest my sweet friend. I love you."

Other celebrities also reached out on social media to share their memories of Willie and also send their condolences to his family.

Ben Stiller, who worked with Willie on There's Something About Mary, said, "Sending love to Willie Garson’s son Nathen. Your dad was strong and respected in his community of fellow actors and his philanthropy was constant and committed. I’m grateful I knew him. He was also really really funny."

Matt Bomer who worked on White Collar with the star, added, "I love you forever Willie Garson. Rest in peace my friend."
