It could be the end of an era for Ruth Langsford and her husband Eamonn Holmes, who have reportedly been axed from their Friday slot on This Morning after 14 years, a move which could see them jump ship from ITV completely.

While Eamonn and Ruth are said to still be very much "part of the This Morning family" and will cover for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield when they are on holiday, the couple are apparently being scouted by rivals the BBC.

According to reports, the BBC are willing to offer Eamonn and Ruth their very own show to front.

"Eamonn and Ruth have a huge fanbase and are very experienced," an insider told The Sun on Sunday.

"They can easily carry any number of shows, so producers at the Beeb are considering handing them a format to front."

Fans rejoiced on Friday morning when Ruth and Eamonn returned to This Morning and flocked to Twitter to celebrate their appearance.

"Good to see Eamonn and Ruth presenting today. #ThisMorning," tweeted one fan.

Another said: "Good morning, Eamonn and Ruth! Thank god you’re still here - I almost gave up completely on this show!"

Their appearance came after reports emerged that the TV duo will be replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary on Fridays. Although Dermot recently told an Irish show that "there’s nothing confirmed yet."

According to OK, a source close to Eamonn said he thinks the reshuffle could be to do with his and Ruth's age.

"The viewers love them, but Eamonn has said to Ruth he wonders if it’s because they’re both 60 and too old," the insider said. "Ruth and Eamonn are both telly legends – they’ve done it all, so it seems unfair.

ITV poured cold water over the rumours, saying: "We have a stellar presenting line up on This Morning in Holly and Phillip and Eamonn and Ruth. Any additions to this line up will be announced in due course."
