These are the TV shows the royal family may be binging during the coronavirus lockdown

They're just like us...

royal family

Now that the UK is in lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, everyone is spending much more time at home.

And the royal family are no exception!

The Queen's relatives are all hunkered down in self-isolation too - with Prince Charles and Camilla quarantining in Birkhall in Scotland, Prince William, Catherine, and their three kids at Anmer Hall in Norfolk, and the Queen and Prince Philip ensconced at Windsor Castle.

And while Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan aren't technically royals anymore, they've moved to Los Angeles, where there is also a lockdown in place.

One thing we're all doing whilst in lockdown is watching a lot more television. Whether it's a fun, weekly comedy to take our minds off things, or a gritty Netflix drama binged in an entire weekend - TV can provide us with some light relief, an escape, and some much-needed entertainment during these tough times.

And we'd imagine that the royals are doing the very same thing. After all, their work engagements, much like many of the rest of us, are also cancelled.

Okay, while we can't imagine the Queen herself slobbing out on the sofa binge-watching Friends - it's well known that she loves an evening in front of the TV during her normal schedule.

So what might the likes of Charles, William, and Camilla, be watching during isolation?

The Queen

The monarch - who delivered a stirring speech to the nation over the weekend - might normally be too busy to indulge in daytime TV, but she's reportedly set to take advantage of some spare time during quarantine.

In an article on the Daily Mail, it was claimed that the Queen loves Countdown, on Channel 4, calling it a "favourite show" of Her Majesty's. Apparently, she'll tune in with her chief dresser and close confidante, Angela Kelly, each day.

But that's not the only quiz show she's a fan of.

Host of Pointless, Alexander Armstrong, has revealed in the past that he was told the Queen was a huge fan of the show, watching it frequently. So we'd imagine that if any repears run during the lockdown, she'll be tuning in!

And, there's every chance she'll be catching up with the show based on her life too - Netflix's The Crown. Vanessa Kirby, who played Princess Margaret in seasons one and two, revealed that she was told by a reliable source (either Princess Beatrice or Princess Eugenie), that the monarch enjoys it. She said, "A friend of mine was at a party where he didn't know anyone so sidled up to a group who were discussing the show.

"One of the women said, 'My granny kind of likes it.' It turns out it was one of the princesses – the Queen's granddaughter. It's quite a reliable source – ish – so I am sure she is a fan!"

Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge likely don't have too much time on their hands during quarantine, due to keeping up with their three young children. But with any quiet evenings they do have, they may well be catching up on the latest seasons of their favourite shows.

At the BAFTA's 2019, Prince William confessed that he loves the hit BBC drama, Killing Eve, starring Jodie Comer. He met the entire cast whilst there, with the producer Sally Woodward Gentle revealing that he's 'watched it all'.

The first two seasons have already aired, but with the third set to hit screens on 12th April, you can almost guarantee the heir to the throne will be tuning in.

In a Radio 1 interview, the Duke and Duchess also revealed their love for two hugely popular shows - Game of Thrones and Homeland, saying they were 'huge fans'. The final season of Homeland is still running, so it's likely that the pair will tune in to see the end of the show - and who knows, they may well be using their extra time to binge once again on Game of Thrones?

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall

The Duchess of Cornwall is known to be an avid Strictly Come Dancing fan - having visited the set on a couple of occasions in the past. So might she be watching repeats of her favourite dances during lockdown? We sure hope so!

Prince Charles is also famously an avid environment advocate, and has campaigned for its conservation for decades now. Could he be using the time in quarantine to catch up on some wildlife documentaries then? After all, there's a huge range of David Attenborough options to choose from on BBC iPlayer...

Prince Harry and Meghan

It's thought that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are quite the fans of a bit of reality TV - mostly, talent competitions.

Back in 2017, Prince Harry admitted to being a fan of Britain's Got Talent, and with the series set to return to ITV this weekend (11th April), they could well tune into the show from their new home in LA.

Last year, the couple also revealed themselves as huge fans of The Voice Kids. A former finalist on the show, Donel Mangena, explained on Lorraine that they appeared to be very excited to meet him at an event. He said, "Harry and Meghan walked in and I expected a handshake, but Meghan screamed my name and ran over to give me a hug," before confessing that Harry told him, "our money’s on you."

Before she married her husband, back in 2016, Meghan Markle also confessed in an interview with UKTV that her 'guilty pleasure' TV show is The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. The show is still running to this day, as are its multiple spin-offs, such as the New York and Atlanta versions. So it could well still be the perfect, escapist TV for the Duchess of Sussex to watch during lockdown - especially when baby Archie is napping.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis

Prince William and Catherine have shared previously that their eldest two used to love Peppa Pig, but have now somewhat grown out of it at the ages of six and four. However, it could well be a new favourite of Prince Louis, who is almost two years old.

Six-year-old George also used to be a huge fan of Fireman Sam (his dad revealed), so he may well have passed that interest on to his younger brother as well.

It seems the older Cambridge children have taken more interest in films of late, with their parents explaining that they love Coco, The Lion King, How To Train Your Dragon, and Moana.

So will you be watching some of the same TV as the royal family during the lockdown?
