John Stamos was a hit in the 90s portraying Full House's heartthrob Uncle Jesse. As a breakout TV star, he eventually landed a guest appearance on another popular show, Friends.
It's no surprise that big TV stars expect applause when they walk into the room. So, you can only imagine their disappointment when that doesn't happen. For John, there was one particular experience that left him 'heartbroken' over the audience's reaction.
"I have not told this story," John revealed to Access Hollywood. Back during his Full House days, the actor explained that the show used the same set as another popular sitcom: Friends. This ended up leading to him being invited to guest star on the episode of Friends. The show-runners thought that since John was such a well-known actor during the time, the live audience would surely be excited to see him.
"They said, 'You come in here, and you hold for applause, and then you take your moment and move on,'" he recalled. "Matt Perry [who played Chandler] was like, 'Oh, man, they're going to be excited.'"
John was also no stranger to successful TV series either. Along with his role in Full House, the actor also starred in Thieves and Jake in Progress, further cementing him as a household name. Unsurprisingly he even landed the title of PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive in 2007.
With all that in mind, it's hard to think that an audience's reaction would be anything but excited. Yet, instead of enthusiastic and thrilled fans, the audience wasn't as animated as John had promised.
In the episode, he was brought on to play Zack, a potential sperm donor for the characters Chandler and Monica, in the 2003 episode The One With the Donor.
"I open the door, and I walk in and...silence," John said during the interview. "Matt just says the line, and then we move on."
"I remember being sort of heartbroken; they were all waiting for the people to clap in the audience, and they didn't," he continued. "That's what I remember. It was weird, right?"
It's almost too unbelievable. I mean, could you imagine not cheering for John?
