Jill and Joe Biden have revealed their marriage is "harder" since moving into the White House, admitting their new life "prevents" them from enjoying the spontaneity of their old relationship.

The US President and the First Lady have endured a fast-paced schedule since Biden's election last November, and it looks like things aren't going to slow down any time soon. From meeting the Queen for tea in London to promoting their Covid-19 vaccination strategy across the US, Dr. Jill and Joe Biden have wasted no time making their mark in their first few months in office.

The high-pressure roles have, regrettably, forced them to neglect certain aspects of their personal lives, including their 44-year-long marriage. While there's no doubt that the couple is still a tight unit—the world swooned when Joe Biden called Dr. Jill Biden the ‘love of his life’ in Valentine's post—it hasn't been easy to keep the spark alive.

"It’s not like we can just go off like we used to," President Biden told Vogue in a recent interview. "When we were living in Delaware and married, once a month we’d just go up to a local bed-and-breakfast by ourselves, to make sure we had a romantic time to just get away and hang out with each other.”

"I’m not complaining," he added. "It’s part of the deal. But this life prevents it. It’s just harder."

With their chockablock itineraries, finding alone time together often feels like an impossible mission. It doesn't help that Dr. Jill is often jet-setting around the US on important political duties, which can last several days at a time.

And when she's not crossing timezones, she's crossing errors. A Professor of English since 2009, Dr. Jill made history as the only First Lady to hold a job when Biden was elected in November 2020

President Biden has had to learn that, if he wants to connect with his wife, he needs to make the extra effort.

"I want to go and hang out with her, and she’s working on an important speech! Or grading papers," he said. "We have to figure out a way—and I mean this sincerely—to be able to steal time for one another. I think that’s the deal.”

Jill agreed with this sentiment, adding, "We’re both so busy. And so we have to, I think, try a little harder to make time for one another."

For the husband and wife duo, it's quality over quantity that matters when it comes to their relationship. When they're both at home in the White House, the couple always winds down the evening with a romantic dinner together.

"Sometimes we eat on the balcony; last night we ate in the yellow Oval, upstairs. It’s just part of the day that we set apart, and we still light the candles, still have the conversations, still put the phones away," Jill revealed.

The First Lady is also known for keeping Joe on his toes with her wicked sense of humor. In a light-hearted quip that sent her audience into hysterics, Dr. Jill Biden reminded President Joe Biden to ‘pay attention’ to her UK speech. And when she's not cracking witty remarks, she's playing practical jokes.

Jill Biden's hilarious April Fool's Day prank this year saw her go incognito on a flight from California to Washington DC—much to her colleagues' astonishment.

The First Lady dressed up as a waitress and passed out ice creams, only revealing her true identity towards the end of the journey. She also has a track record of surprising folks by jumping out at them unexpectantly, even hiding in a stow cabinet and yelling 'Boo!' at an unassuming passenger on one occasion.

With their VIP jobs and hectic calendars, the powerhouse couple may not be able to guarantee a weekly date night anymore, but one thing's for sure—Jill and Joe Biden are unlikely to ever get bored of each other.
