These are the happiest places to live and work in the UK, according to a new study

Home really is where the heart is, so it's likely important to all of us that we feel comfortable and happy in the space we head back to every evening.

But where in the country do people feel the happiest?

Stylist.co.uk reports that CV Library recently conducted a survey of working professionals in the UK, and asked them 'Do you feel happy on a daily basis?'

With the responses, they were able to put together a list of the happiest places to live and work in the UK, depending on how many people said yes to the above statement.

And it turns out, a huge number of Brits are happiest living and working by the sea, in none other than the popular location of Brighton!

The job listing website revealed that a whopping 86.4% of people in Brighton said they felt happy on a daily basis, and it's not too surprising really. Being near the wide open expanse of the sea, the chance to enjoy amazing landscapes, great shopping, a thriving arts scene and an open and accepting community as you can in Brighton sounds like a recipe for success to us!

Closely following Brighton on the list are two arguably colder destinations, Swansea and Glasgow, with 75% and 70.6% of people surveyed there saying they felt happy on a daily basis.

So which other locations made up the top 10 list?

Top 10 happiest places to live and work:

Brighton: 86.4%

Swansea: 75%

Glasgow: 70.6%

York: 66.7%

Lincoln: 63.2%

Belfast: 62.5%

Edinburgh: 62.5%

Birmingham: 61.3%

London: 61%

Manchester: 60%

But however, of course, some places did come lower down the list, with just 44.8% of people in Cardiff saying they felt happy on a daily basis, 44.4% saying the same in Bristol, and only 40% in Nottingham.

Of the findings, CEO of CV-Library Lee Biggins, said, “At a time where there’s constant negativity in the press, it’s fantastic to see that the majority of Brits still feel happy on a daily basis.

“The findings got me thinking about an article I read once which really resonated with me: it said that success isn’t the key to happiness, it’s happiness that’s the key to success. I agree that feeling good in ourselves makes it easier to achieve our goals, whether that’s in our personal or professional lives.”

He went on to make the great point that if you are struggling, and regularly experience feelings of unhappiness, do what you can to address the problem. Lee said, “No-one can be happy all the time, but being able to make the most of the good times and cope effectively when life does get tough is crucial.

"If you are struggling, it’s important to not only seek professional help or talk to your loved ones, but also to really consider what’s making you unhappy. Make a list and try to think of solutions: maybe it’s time to find a new job, start a new hobby, or even take some time out to think about your goals.”
