Fern Britton has revealed that she is 'looking forward' to the next chapter of her life following her divorce from her ex-husband Phil Vickery.

The former couple split earlier this year after 20 years of marriage.

Speaking to Weekend magazine, the TV presenter explained that while she misses her friendship with her former husband, she is excited to embrace her 'uncertain future'.

Of her marriage to the TV chef, she said, "We had a wonderful time. We were the best of friends. And I miss that friendship.

"There comes a point when the children are substantially off your hands and you look at each other and wonder where you're going to go from here."

Fern Britton also revealed that the pair took a long time deciding to split, but confirmed that she's not looking back now that they have separated.

"I took a long time to make my decision yet I have faith that it's going to be alright. Now I'm looking forward to the last third of my adult life," she said.

"An uncertain future doesn't panic me. I feel liberated. I'm turning into a recluse and I'm loving it."

When asked whether she'd ever consider marrying again, Fern confirmed that she's not keen on committing to another relationship in that way again.

She said, "I really did try to build good families but it didn't work out. I won't try again."

Explaining that she's loving her independence now, Fern said, "I don't want anyone. I can do it by myself. I don't feel lonely. I like my own company. I realised not long ago that I was married, on and off, for 33 years."

Fern Britton and Phil Vickery married in 2000, and the couple share a daughter, Winnie, who was born in 2001.

They announced their split in January of this year, sharing a joint statement on their social media accounts. It read, "After more than 20 happy years together, Phil and I have decided to go our separate ways. We will always share a great friendship and our lovely children."
