Queen still going ahead with Christmas party plans despite surge in Omicron cases

The Queen still intends to host a Christmas party for her extended family at Winsdor Castle despite the surging cases of the new COVID-19 Omicron variant.

It seems that the Queen's Christmas plans will not be affected by the new COVID-19 variant as Her Majesty has made the decision to continue to host her Christmas party.

According to a royal source, the Queen will still host her Christmas Party for her extended family. Although this typically takes place at Buckingham Palace, the Queen has moved the location to Windsor Castle where she is currently staying. 

The source told The Sun, "Currently it is going ahead but obviously it will be under review right up until the last moment."

"It will likely be the first time so many family members have been together since Philip’s funeral."

The source added that although the family plan to get together, the Queen and other members of the family will be ensuring they put safety first and ensure the health of the royal family and follow government restrictions.

“Obviously everyone must act responsibly and things can change in a short period of time but as it stands they’re all set for Tuesday,” said the source.

It is also thought that the Queen's youngest great-grandchildren who were born in 2021, will also be in joining in on the fun and celebrating their first Christmases together with their families. This includes Princess Eugenie's son August, Zara Tindall's son Lucas, and Princess Beatrice's daughter Sienna.

Prince Harry and Meghan plan to stay in the US so their young daughter Lilibet who was also born in 2021, will instead be celebrating her first Christmas with her parents and older brother Archie.

Reports suggest that the Queen will then travel by helicopter to Sandringham House in Norfolk where she will spend the rest of the festive period.

Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge plan to break their royal Christmas tradition as they plan to stay nearby at their country home Amner Hall and spend Christmas with the Queen.

The Queen will host Christmas Day celebrations and the family plan to visit St Magdalene Church if COVID regulations still permit the trip.
