There was one of Kate Middleton's looks that reigned supreme on our Pinterest boards

Kate Middleton's hair needs an Instagram account of its own. Even using the best hairdryer and tools, we'd struggle to match her perfect style.

Especially right now, as there's something wonderfully cathartic about obsessing over someone else's near-perfect 'do rather than our own grown-out roots. It was a close-run race as we have a host of favorites but we're crowning the blonde highlights meets beachy waves Kate Middleton's most popular lockdown hairstyle.

The Duchess of Cambridge's hair transformations have always been subtle.  She debuted a lighter hair color courtesy of honey highlights in July last year along with shorter face-framing layers. Another hit.

Her next round of brightening highlights appears to have come just before she posted a video to the Kensington Royal Instagram account, thanking participants for showcasing their world in her Hold Still photography project.

The Duchess of Cambridge looked blonder than ever, with bright caramel highlights making up most of her color. Cue: the Internet went wild for the look.

Another draw: the Duchess' blow-dry is more undone than the pretty Disney princess ringlets she sported later in the year. The fact that the look requires less effort makes it even more appealing.

According to Zoe Irwin, ghd UK Brand Ambassador, the key to loose modern waves is to "rotate your hair straightener 180 degrees while running it down the length of the hair. Then rotate it again, running the straighteners down to the end of your hair. Gently pull the end of the curl down to get a looser finish."

Another trick is to switch wrapping directions halfway down a section, and run your fingers through the curls to loosen and separate them.

After all, there’s nothing in the royal protocol that says there can only be one hairstyle fit for a Duchess.
