Kate Middleton's obsession with Eurovision has been revealed by British contestant Sam Ryder. He talked about how the Royal Family watched the event - and shared a very cheeky joke with the 'down to earth' Duchess.

Kate Middleton loves Eurovision and who can blame her, it's a world of entertainment. Eurovision 2022 runner-up Sam Ryder certainly had one of the best moments of the Platinum Jubilee weekend. He may not have won the competition this year, but he bagged himself a trip to Buckingham Palace, a spot on stage at the Platinum Jubilee Concert - and a specially requested one-on-one with the Duchess of Cambridge.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Sam explained that he was backstage doing press interviews when he was approached by one of the palace staff who said, "Have you ever met a member of the royal family before?"

When the Spaceman star said no, they asked, "Do you want to change that right now?" Naturally, he leaped at the chance and moments later he was having a meet and greet with one of the most famous women on the planet.

"I said 'hello' to Kate, and she was asking about the performance," he explained. "She is so kind and said that the royal family had all been supporting me for a while and all throughout Eurovision. Then Princess Beatrice came over and had a chat with us too."

He continued, "She was just so lovely and encouraging and supporting. And just generous with her kindness."

The Royal Family aren't afraid to display their ability to perform. Only recently, Prince Charles showed off his dance moves at pre Platinum Jubilee party and fans learned that Princess Charlotte shares the Queen's musical talent. Clearly, they have an eye for talent and appreciate the skill involved - just look at how excited Duchess Kate got during their chat.

Sam explained, "She was just saying that they all appreciated the way that the team had handled the Eurovision journey, and that meant so much to all of us." Adding, "What I gather is a lot of the members of the royal family had seen Eurovision and were supporting my song from home, which means a lot."

According to Sam, knowing he had support from the royals meant a lot. He said, "It was incredible, and it was so inspiring to get the encouragement from the Royal Family because they stand for such similar themes that Eurovision celebrates as well, like unity, togetherness, and solidarity."

The adorable singer sagely added, "And that coming together of people in a world that seems to find ways of disconnecting us at any given time."

Although his turn on the Eurovision stage may be over, news that the Eurovision star is tipped for Strictly is sure to thrill Her Majesty as the Queen watches Strictly, and votes for her favorites each year.

What do Strictly and the Eurovision have in common? Why, sequins of course and Sam said that the Duchess was keen to make a cheeky joke about his sequinned playsuit.

"I was wearing my stage suit and me and Kate were joking that someone would have to hoover up a few of my stones the next morning," he explained. "Because they'd probably be falling off as I was walking around."
