Vera Wang's age has left her legions of fans in utter shock as the popular designer celebrates her 73rd birthday in the most fabulous way.

She's best known for leading wedding dress trends, but this designer has seen her empire expand to producing all sorts of products including fashion, beauty, jewelry, and homewares. However, it's not helping brides decide what to wear to a wedding, nor her other myriad of talents that are hitting the headlines this time.

Living life how you choose, despite society's archaic regulations regarding how women are expected to act at various ages, has long since been a mantel of Vera's. The former Vogue editor, who opened her first bridal shop aged 40, has spoken in the past about ageism and how redundant it is.

The Independent reports that, during an interview with BBC 100 Women, she said she never thought of, “going way out of [her] way,” to, “preserve youth in a fanatical, obsessive way." Adding that she finds ageism 'so old-fashioned' because, “you have to try and continue to grow in one way or another,” as you advance in years.

"I’ve got to be really honest, one of them is sleep,” she told the BBC.
