'The 70s have been amazing': Christie Brinkley reveals why she wants women not to fear ageing
The 72-year-old just walked the runway at New York Fashion Week, proving that age really is just a number
Sports Illustrated icon Christie Brinkley is living proof that age is just a number as the model strutted down a New York Fashion Week runway aged 72, exuding carefree confidence and glamour.
Part of the reason Christie is still so effortlessly youthful and vital is down to her mentality - she’s simply refusing to let ageing be a scary thing, and she wants women everywhere to do the same.
In a new interview, she shared, "I have to say the 70s have been amazing. When I actually say the number, it seems very foreign to me because I don’t know, I don’t feel like that, and I want to let other women know not to fear [ageing] because it’s not what you think.

She added, "I’m having a great time" - and she’s certainly making it look great. Her recent appearance at Dennis Basso's ready-to-wear Spring 2027 show in New York saw her strut down the runway in a slinky off-the-shoulder gown featuring a thigh split.
Looking every inch the glamorous model, her blonde locks were styled with a bouncy blow dry and she completed the look with a signature red lipstick.
Speaking about her return to the runway in her 70s, she shared with her Instagram followers afterwards, "Thank you to @dennisbasso for giving this honor to a seasoned 72 1/2 woman... we still don’t see enough of us represented."
For Christie, she’s - quite literally - walking the walk after talking the talk when it comes to keeping her attitude positive on ageing. A few years ago, before she turned 30, she spoke with People and shared that her focus wasn’t on the number.

She told the outlet at the time, "I pretty much feel, as I'm approaching 70, the same way that I felt when I was approaching 30. I feel good. I feel strong.
"I feel like the number doesn't match my spirit, so I may as well just keep spiriting on."
Earlier this year, she revisited this topic and shared her words of advice, including what she thinks young people do that you stop caring about as you get older.
She told Society Allure, "When you're young, you are always wondering and thinking about what they're thinking about you, and you know, people don't really spend that much time thinking about you.
"You should just get on with it and enjoy your day and dive into life and each day. Every day is a brand new clean canvas for you to paint with all the colours and activity. Dive in and enjoy."
