Tinder launches new feature so you can avoid an awkward run in with your ex
Tinder has launched a new blocking feature so you can swipe happily and avoid awkward encounters with your ex
Tinder has launched a new feature to their dating app which will allow users to avoid awkward encounters with their ex while swiping.
Tinder is one of the most popular and best dating apps on the market at the moment. Tinder caters to those looking for a no-string sex app and for those who are looking for something more serious.
The brand has also made huge strides in recent years when they announced that Tinder was teaming up with cab-company Lyft to help ‘post-lockdown daters’ find love following the pandemic.
So it isn’t a huge surprise that the dating app has figured out the perfect way to avoid the worst part about dating apps: seeing your ex.
Bernadette Morgan, Group Product Manager, Trust & Safety at Tinder stated, “We may not be able to save you from awkward run-ins at the coffee shop, but we are giving you more control over your experience on Tinder.”
She continued to say, “We’re rolling out Block Contacts as an additional resource empowering members with peace of mind by helping create a worry-free space for them to spark new connections.”
This new feature ‘Block Contacts’ means that you can avoid the people whose number you have saved on your phone. This means you can avoid anyone you don’t want to run into on the app, from your ex to your cousin, this new feature allows you to block out all the people who you really don’t want to run into on a dating app.

This feature was originally tested in Asia in Korea, Japan, and India. The testing of the Block Contacts feature found that users typically added around a dozen people to their blocked list, suggesting that this feature was extremely popular.
Some fans have already speculated that this new feature will also allow people in relationships to use the app to cheat on their partners.
One Tinder user wrote on Twitter, “Tinder lets you block contacts now... so if you’re on there cheating you may just be able to get away with it and that part sucks.”
Another Twitter user said, “Tinder coming out with the 'do you want to block people in your contacts from seeing you?' option might as well just say ‘do you want to make sure no one finds out you’re cheating?’”
Although there might be downsides to this new update, fans are still excited about this new release and are pleased they don’t have to encounter some unwelcome familiar faces on the app.
One fan wrote, “So glad Tinder added the feature where you can block seeing certain people from your contacts so I never have to see the ugly people I’ve dealt with again.”
