The Soprano's star Joseph Siravo has died aged 64

Joseph Siravo captivated audiences for his performances as Giovanni "Johnny Boy" Soprano in The Sopranos and Gyp DeCarlo in the Broadway musical Jersey Boys. After a long battle with cancer, though, the actor has died at age 64.

According to BBC, his daughter confirmed his death on her private Instagram account, writing, "I was by his side when my dear father passed away this morning, peacefully, in his beloved Treehouse."

"We are both so lucky to be so intensely loved," she allegedly added. "I am so immensely grateful to have had him here on earth, and I know that he hasn't gone very far."

Joseph's co-star Garry Pastore also confirmed the news in an Instagram post, honoring his friend.

"RIP, my dear friend, who fought an incredible fight. I will miss you. See you on the other side," Garry wrote.

More of his Soprano co-stars joined in paying tribute to the actor with their own posts including Michael Imperioli and Maureen Van Zandt.

In Michael's Instagram post, he took a moment to recognize Joseph's performance in The Sopranos as "the best of all the actors" who played the "Teflon Don." 

"Our friend and colleague JOE SIRAVO has passed away," wrote Michael. "Joe was an excellent actor and a wonderful guy and he will be missed dearly. His performance of Johnny Boy Soprano was spot on and he also made a perfect John Gotti in Nick Sandow’s “The Wannabe”. In my opinion he was the best of all the actors who’ve played the Teflon Don. Farewell Joe. Until the next life my friend.

Maureen shared her devastation over the news on Twitter with a throwback photo from a Broadway workshop they were at together.

"Just heard Joe passed away," she said. "A talented and lovely man. A perfect Johnny Boy Soprano. Took this at the workshop of Piece of My Heart, Bway show about Bert Berns. Deepest condolences to his family and friends."

After his time on The Sopranos, Joesph also performed in the first national tour of Jersey Boys and then went on to act in a variety of projects including an appearance in American Crime Story and For Life. His Broadway credits also include Conversations with My Father, The Boys from Syracuse, The Light in the Piazza and Oslo.
