An unearthed documentary has revealed that Kate Bush upstaged Elton John back in 2005 when he was having a civil partnership ceremony with his now-husband, David Furnish.
In 2014, a TV movie about Kate Bush's career was released. The documentary was titled, The Kate Bush Story: Running Up That Hill (opens in new tab), and featured interviews with a number of high-profile celebrities including Elton John, St Vincent, Steve Coogan, and Jo Brand.
In an unearthed clip from the film, Elton John shares a sweet anecdote about the star as he refers to her as a 'beautiful mystery.'
"I'll tell you a story, when I had my civil partnership nine years ago in 2005, we invited Kate and we didn't think she'd come but she did and came with her husband Danny," began Elton in the interview.
He explained that despite the fact it was a day celebrating his partnership with David, everyone was focused on the 'enigma' that was Kate Bush. "And there were a lot of very famous people in that room, there was like 600 people, and all anybody wanted to meet was Kate Bush," said Elton.
He added that it wasn't just those in the music business either that were desperate to meet her. "I mean musicians, anybody, they couldn't believe that Kate Bush was there. She's kind of an enigma," he said.

"I mean they're not normal songs, none of her songs have been normal," added Elton in the interview."She's just who she is, she's unique, she's a mystery, she's the most beautiful mystery."
The singer also added that her music has yet to be replicated because there is no one quite like Kate. "Wuthering Heights was not your normal type of song, but that's why it was so brilliant. It was great to hear something out of the norm. When things like that come along, they don't come along very often. I mean when does the next Kate Bush come along after Kate Bush? There hasn't been one," said Elton.
Fans of Kate Bush loved this unearthed clip and many took to social media to share their delight. "Have to admit.. room full of celebs and Kate would likely be the only one I'd care about meeting. Unless Kermit was there ofc," joked one fan.
"She’s the most beautiful mystery!! She is utterly amazing," said another fan agreeing with Elton's description of the singer. "He’s right. There has never been another like Kate," agreed another.
Fans have been searching for the meaning behind the Kate Bush song Running Up That Hill following its recent success in the top charts. Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill is at number one in the UK, the US, and other countries across the globe thanks to the creators of Netflix's Stranger Things Season 4 who prominently featured the song in the series.
Despite the fact that this song was released 37 years ago, the popularity of the series has skyrocketed Kate Bush's track to the number one spot and has shocked even Kate Bush herself. On June 17, 2022, Kate said, "I have to admit I feel really moved by it all. Thank you so very much for making the song a No 1 in such an unexpected way."
