Friendships

Whoever first said 'Your friends are the family you choose' was certainly onto something. From your first meeting to all the times you've since spent together, there's nothing quite like the bond between best friends. So we caught up with four woman&home readers in our March issue to discuss their special friendships.

Erica Chammas and Giovanna Tomassi, both from Southend in Essex, have been friends for 45 years and always got into trouble for "giggling to much at school". The secret to their long lasting companionship? "We just enjoy each others company, we don't have to make an effort" says Erica.

Jaqui MacDonald and Sarah Clune, are both 43 and live in Ascot. "We've been through so much and supported each other through joys, happiness, disasters and nastiness" says Sarah.

That's not to say that it's always plain sailing. Even the closest of friends can go through difficult times and arguments, but it's making it through and emerging closer than ever that stands you two apart.

Scroll down to read our list of signs that you and YOUR best friend are one of a kind! And if they apply, then don't forget to let her know how lucky you are.

1. You've seen each other though tough times...

Whether that's break-ups, loss of a loved one, or even having to deal with moving away and being apart from each other, she always knows how to bring a little light into your life.

2...But equally, you've had some of the best times together

Most of the nights you'll never forget (and some of those you won't remember!) have been spent with your bessie, and you wouldn't have it any other way. 3. She can always make you laugh

Even if it's just with a look, that glint in her eye is bound to make you crack a smile.

4. When other people are around, they have no idea what you're talking about

You have so many 'private jokes' that the people around you don't know whether to join in or just keep quiet. But you're so funny together that chances are you'll have others giggling anyway... 5. You always have time for each other

And there's nothing quite like a good gossip session together after a busy week.

6. You can go for weeks without speaking, but when you finally talk, it's like you were never apart

In fact, it just gives you even more to chat about!

7. Her family are like your family

And you've got no problem treating them that way. If they come around for dinner, they'll be doing the dishes after, too!

8. You never have to share your memories alone

Because she was always living them with you!

9. And last but not least, there was one person you were thinking of while reading this - your BFF

Awww!
