Why you can trust Woman & Home Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test.

Everyone wants a Simba Hybrid mattress. Their range sits in the sweet spot between responsive springs and sink-in foam that makes hybrid designs so universally appealing. But with multiple versions, knowing which one to choose can feel overwhelming. After testing across the collection, the one we come back to time and time again is the Simba Hybrid Pro.

Boasting more springs, more layers, and advanced temperature-regulating technology, it comfortably earns its place as one of the best cooling mattress options you can buy. Sleepers rave about “instantly good sleep” and “rest that's so good, I don't want to ever get out of bed.” They sound like bold claims, but ones we were keen to put to the test.

How we tested the Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress review

This mattress was put to the test by Liz Morrell, a member of our tester network. Here's a little more about her.

Liz wishes she knew exactly where she was on the menopause journey, but thanks to the Mirena coil, she isn’t really sure. Although she doesn’t get full-on flushes, she’s a hot sleeper and so a mattress that could help control her heat as she slept was a bonus. However, the biggest challenge has been disturbed sleep caused by musculoskeletal issues related to hormone changes, so she has been seeking a mattress that offers better support and could deliver much-needed sleep.

Who would the Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress suit?

The Simba Hybrid Pro sits right in the middle of Simba’s best-selling line-up. You could save around £200 with the Hybrid Essential or spend £200 more on the Hybrid Ultra, but for us, the Pro strikes the ideal balance, offering meaningful upgrades without tipping into over-engineered luxury.

Its medium-firm feel is carefully calibrated to suit a wide range of sleepers. You get cushioning around the hips and shoulders, alongside enough lift to keep your spine aligned, whether you sleep on your side, back, or front. This is where hybrid construction really shines: the foam contours, while the springs provide responsive support and reduce motion transfer, which is ideal if you share a bed.

Liz sums it up perfectly: "it feels like a quality all-rounder for anyone and I've already recommended it to lots of my friends, but it's particularly relevant for those suffering any of the symptoms of menopause," she adds, "all Simba’s products carry the GenM Menopause Friendly symbol designed to ease, relieve or support one or more of the 48 signs of menopause."

If you’re a hot sleeper, or researching ways to sleep in the heat, this is certainly a mattress worth considering.

Composition of the Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress

The Simba Hybrid Pro really stands out when you look inside. With eight distinct layers, it goes beyond the typical five or six you’d expect from a standard hybrid and each one has a clear, functional purpose.

At the top, you’ve got a removable, zip-off cover. This is a practical win for hygiene, but it also features Simba’s Stratos® technology, which is designed to actively draw heat away from the body, helping regulate your temperature through the night.

Beneath that sits a layer of British wool, which is one of the most effective natural materials for temperature regulation. It’s breathable, moisture-wicking, and commonly used across premium sleep products, from duvets to mattress toppers.

Next comes Simbatex® foam. This is Simba’s proprietary open-cell foam, designed to allow airflow while still delivering that soft, slightly springy cushioning. It works alongside two additional layers of CertiPUR® foam, which form the structural core of the mattress, providing stability, durability, and further airflow channels.

Where the Simba Hybrid Pro really pulls ahead is its spring system. In a king size, you’ll find over 4,800 springs, which is significantly more than the industry average. These include Simba’s Aerocoil® microsprings, which adapt to your body’s pressure points, and a base layer of over 1,000 pocket springs that provide edge-to-edge support and prevent sagging over time.

Liz was impressed by the construction: "I didn't even realise that a mattress could have so many layers," she said. She also noted that the structure means you don’t flip the mattress, instead, rotating it every few months helps maintain even wear.

Unboxing the Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress

A mattress delivery is never going to be subtle, but Simba makes the process as smooth as possible. Liz had help from the delivery drivers, which is a service that often comes as standard with the brand. It's safe to say that she was was impressed from the outset. Inside the "pretty turquoise and white cardboard packaging," she found the mattress "wrapped in an outer layer of protective plastic, with the folded and vacuum-packed mattress in a second plastic layer."

The packaging is largely recyclable, and Simba encourages customers to take the soft plastic to local recycling points, a thoughtful touch if you’re trying to make more sustainable home choices.

That said, setup can be slightly fiddly. Liz admits: "opening the plastic packaging was a little tricky… I nicked the inner vacuum pack with my scissors… which meant the mattress started expanding before I was quite ready." A good tip here is to take your time and position the mattress before fully opening it.

Once unwrapped, the mattress begins expanding immediately. Simba recommends leaving it for 3–6 hours before use, with up to 72 hours for full expansion. Liz also noticed a "slight smell", which is completely normal, this is off-gassing from the foam and typically fades within a day or two with good ventilation.

Simba offers a generous 200-night trial, giving you plenty of time to decide if it’s right. Returns are free, and unwanted mattresses are recycled, refurbished, or donated, a reassuring policy for such a big investment.

What is the Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress like to sleep on?

This is where the Simba Hybrid Pro really proves its worth. Liz came into testing with a long list of sleep challenges: "I’ve suffered with various musculoskeletal issues… including frozen shoulder and calcific tendonitis, as well as hip, back and knee pain." Her old mattress only made things worse, creating dips that disrupted her sleep and aggravated pressure points.

From the very first night, she noticed a difference. "it has just the right amount of give, feeling firm yet comfortable." That balance is crucial, especially if you’re dealing with joint pain or looking for long-term support.

She also highlighted Simba’s signature “hug” feel: "That hug-like feeling Simba boasts of is so apparent that I’m pretty sure that I now barely move in my sleep." For restless sleepers, or people who share a bed, this kind of stability can be transformative. Liz didn't experience sleeping with anyone else on the bed, but commented on just how stable and solid it felt underneath her. I have seen plenty of other reviews praising the sheer stability of the Simba Hybrid Pro.

Temperature regulation was another standout. Liz typically overheats and sleeps with the window open, but found herself adjusting: she was cool enough to close the window and even switched to a warmer duvet. For anyone exploring ways to sleep in the heat, that’s a strong real-world endorsement. Combined with its cushioning and support, the Simba Hybrid Pro creates a sleep environment that rivals high-end hotels.

Should you buy the Simba Hybrid Pro Mattress?

It’s safe to say Liz was completely won over. "Normally, I'd be worried about spending this much money on a mattress blind, but it has been a godsend."

And that’s really the takeaway here. The Simba Hybrid Pro isn’t just comfortable, it’s engineered to solve real sleep problems, from overheating to joint pain. It’s an investment, yes, but one that delivers across the board: support, breathability, durability, and that luxurious feel that makes you want to linger in bed just a little longer. In fact, Liz loved it so much it sparked a full sleep reset and bedroom reset: proof that the right mattress can redefine not just your sleep, but your entire space.

How we test mattresses

Every mattress we recommend goes through rigorous, real-world testing, not just a quick lie-down.

We assess each model across key criteria: support, pressure relief, temperature regulation, motion isolation, and edge support. We also consider ease of setup, build quality, and long-term durability.

For the Simba Hybrid Pro, Liz slept on the mattress for several weeks in her own home, allowing us to understand how it performs over time, not just on night one. Her feedback was particularly valuable given her experience with joint pain and temperature fluctuations, helping us evaluate how well the mattress supports those looking for practical ways to sleep in the heat and improve overall comfort.

Where possible, we compare against other leading models and draw on our wider testing experience to give you clear, honest recommendations, so you can confidently choose the right mattress for your needs.
