You won’t know Ooni for their Halo Pro Stand Mixer yet: it’s brand new and built with the same market-leading expertise that’s made the brand a favourite in the world of pizza dough.

The Halo Pro is what happens when a company refuses to follow the crowd. Instead of the familiar tilting heads and chunky levers you see on most premium stand mixers, Ooni has gone bold with a rotating bowl system and sleek, high-end finishes. It puts power and precision at the heart of its ultra-modern design and it delivers.

In fact, calling it “good” feels like an understatement. It takes a lot to shake my loyalty to the trusty KitchenAid, yet this mixer has me genuinely wondering if the baking world is overdue for a rethink. So, how does it actually bake?

The Ooni Halo Pro Stand Mixer is perfect for anyone who’s serious about levelling up their dough game, whether you’re the type who’s forever chasing the perfect pizza crust or you simply love the satisfaction of a beautifully risen loaf.

It brings the kind of dual-kneading spiral mixing technology that professional bakers swear by right into your kitchen, meaning you get bakery-quality dough without needing commercial kit. But it’s not just for dough obsessives.

With its detachable rotating bowl, tilt-head design and clever removable breaker bar, it’s far more versatile than the usual bulky spiral mixers. You can switch between the spiral dough hook, whisk, or beater in seconds, making it ideal for home cooks who want power and precision for everything from ciabatta to cake batter. If you’re a modern baker who wants exceptional results and a mixer that looks as good as it performs the Halo Pro will feel like a seriously exciting upgrade.

Unboxing the Ooni Halo Pro Stand Mixer

The Ooni Halo Pro Stand Mixer is a hefty piece of kit. We’re talking a box that weighs over 15 kgs and seems far too long to house a stand mixer. And yet, it does and it does so beautifully.

All of the packaging is recyclable, except for some light films stuck around the edges of the mixer to stop scratching. It comes with a large, 7L bowl, which is more than you’ll get from any other standard machine and you also get farcical accessories; a splash guard, a silicone edged beater, a dough hook and a whisk, as well as an extra breaker bar.

Overall, the Ooni Halo Pro Stand Mixer feels like a really premium machine and, whilst there is a paper guide to how to use this and a video for setting it up, the basics are very intuitive for any seasoned baker.

What is the Ooni Halo Pro Stand Mixer like to use?

When you turn on the Ooni Halo Pro Stand Mixer, you’ll see the bowl light up. There are two clever bulbs that illuminate your mixtures perfectly. You lift the lid using two buttons on either side of the head and then lock the bowl into place. Most of the accessories push and twist into place with the exception of the whisk, which has a special screw to secure it too.

Then on the top of the machine you have a timer and a percentage of speed, which starts at a slow 5% and works up to an ultra fast speed that I didn’t need at any point in my baking For the technical bakers, you get a range of 60-1,000 RPM.

The one element that I missed was having a handle on the bowl. I imagine that Ooni left this off because bread dough doesn’t really need it, but it makes it a little tricky to hold and pour cake mix and brownie mix out of, especially since this is larger than your average bowl.

The first test that I put all my stand mixers through is making a cake. It works on what the stand mixer is like at creaming ingredients together, and then looks at how well wet and dry ingredients are beaten together.

I made enough mix for a full Victoria sponge and yet, looking inside the bowl, you wouldn’t know it. My mixture is dwarfed in the 7L bowl but it was well mixed and wonderfully smooth in a matter of minutes. The silicone coating on the beater is a really useful element to have for both slickness and cleaning and my cake mix was light and fluffy in three minutes.

No cake is complete without icing, so I made both a vanilla and a chocolate buttercream in the Ooni Halo Pro Stand Mixer. The vanilla used the beating attachment and my chocolate used the whisk. I switched over to the whisk as, whilst the vanilla icing was smooth and well integrated, it didn’t have that light, cupcake style texture that I wanted. As you can see, it nailed that with the chocolate frosting.

Whilst there was a little patch in the middle that the whisk didn’t reach, it was easy enough to lift the head, mix it with my spoon, and set it running again.

I tested both vegan and dairy double cream in the Ooni Halo Pro Stand Mixer. For these tests, I upped the speed to 30% which is still low on the whole scale offered by the Ooni and yet within a few minutes I had stiff, perfect peaks of airy cream. It kept great structure and was well whipped from the bottom to the top. This is one of the best results that I’ve had in my cream tests.

I always run a cookie or biscuit test because the dough can take a little more work than cakes: I’m testing in November, which in my book is as good as Christmas so I made gingerbread in the Ooni Halo Pro Stand Mixer. Treacle, butter, and sugar can be hard to stir until they’re smoothly integrated but the Ooni was deftly getter at bringing them together. Then, adding in my flour and spices is an opportunity for things to get a little lumpy, but the Ooni ridged the trap and made a perfect dough. The biscuits turned out to be the best I’ve made and I don’t want to give full credit to the Ooni, but I think I might have to.

The final test is the one that I knew the Ooni Halo Pro Stand Mixer would nail. It’s a family of pizza ovens that work and supply dough to some of the best places in the country, so they know what they’re doing. The rotating bowl created a much more stable base for bringing my tough dough together into an elastic, firm dough. I tested different hydrations and was really impressed across the board. This really is the bakers stand mixer.

Cleaning the Ooni Halo Pro Stand Mixer

Cleaning the Ooni Halo Pro Stand Mixer is refreshingly straightforward, especially considering its power and pro-level engineering. Unlike traditional spiral mixers with fixed bowls and awkward internal bars, the Halo Pro’s detachable rotating bowl and removable breaker bar make post-bake clean-up far less of a chore. You can lift everything out easily, wipe away any dough residue, and give the bowl a quick wash without wrestling with heavy, fixed components.

The sleek surfaces and modern finishes are also designed to resist smudges and sticky patches, so a damp cloth is usually all you need. It’s one of those rare mixers where you get all the performance of a commercial setup, with none of the dreaded, hard-to-reach doughy corners.

Should you buy the Ooni Halo Pro Stand Mixer?

It takes a lot to tempt me away from my loyalty to KitchenAid Stand Mixers, but the power behind the Ooni Halo Pro Stand Mixer is exceptional. If you bake a lot of bread and you need capacity too, this is nothing short of perfect.
