On June 21st at 5:45 am GMT, the summer solstice takes place. Without getting tied up in astronomical knots, it is at this moment the sun (in its apparent path) stands still. Not surprisingly to the ancients this was a magical event and the focus of many pagan ceremonies celebrating the incredible power of the sun. The summer solstice marks the entry of the sun into Cancer, which is somewhat of an anomaly considering that this water sign is ruled by the moon and one of the most reflective and subtle signs of the zodiac. But then astrology is full of inconsistencies...
