Life coach

Are you stuck for the next career move? Woman and Home sent one woman in search of real solutions to see a life coach

Maria Claxton, 56, aimed to switch from running a packaging business to become a wedding planner (maketheday.co.uk). She is widowed, has two grown-up daughters and lives in Wolverhampton.

"For years I've run a small packaging company, managing a team of five, but my heart lay in launching a wedding planning business. To make the switch, I was juggling two jobs and felt overwhelmed. When I organised a wedding with a £100,000 budget, I struggled to cope. I wasn't managing my time effectively enough and needed help in the short-term, as well as practical advice to help make my business a long-term success."

Maria saw Louise Presley-Turner, a life coach who specialises in the power of positive thinking.
"Maria didn’t know where to start, so I helped her create 'baby-step' action plans. This stopped her from trying to do everything at once. Amazingly, Maria didn’t have a diary, so I urged her to get one."

Maria's verdict: "Getting a diary transformed my life. Putting a line through each completed task made me feel in control. I also got a lot of practical advice about marketing my business. I'd been placing expensive ads in local magazines in December and January but Louise showed me it's best to advertise in spring or autumn.

Finally, I learnt about the power of visualising being a success! For years I'd been saying I needed a holiday, but never booked one. Visualising myself going away resulted in me actually booking a weekend break in Florence. I came back re-energised, ready to give my new business my all."

If this is your problem, follow Louise's tips:
Have a clear vision of where you want to be - imagine your success.
Create your support team. This is invaluable, whether it's your partner, friend or a good coach/mentor.
Devise a monthly plan of action. Ensure you achieve five actions steps each day.
