A new tribute to the Queen has depicted her participating in one of her favorite sports, ahead of the highly-anticipated Platinum Jubilee.

The Queen's legacy ahead of her Platinum Jubilee 2022 has been celebrated in a series of new commemorative coins, courtesy of the Royal Mint.

The British penny manufacturer has produced a touching tribute to Her Majesty, who will mark 70 years on the throne this June, with the release of a customized coin inspired by her beloved pastime—equestrianism.

The design, which was created by artist John Bergdahl and will be stuck on the 'heads' side of a new 50p coin, shows the Queen riding on horseback in her traditional military attire.

While the launch may seem groundbreaking to younger royal fans, it's far from a new idea. The Queen's reign has been honored through coins multiple times in the past, most notably with her 1953 coronation and 2002 Jubilee Crown pieces. They've also never come as a surprise to the 95-year-old monarch, who is required to approve them before their release.

“Designed by esteemed artists and made with original craftsmanship, Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee coins are enduring pieces of art that will be collected, cherished, and passed down for generations," Clare MacLennan, the Royal Mint’s divisional director of commemorative coin, said.

More than 8,000 people are currently queuing on the Royal Mint website to purchase the unique collectible, which is priced at £7, before it sells out.

The Queen's passion for horseriding has also inspired one of the teaser events for the Platinum Jubilee. Her Majesty will enjoy a spectacular equestrian display in the Windsor Castle grounds in May 2022, with over 500 horses and 1000 dancers expected to entertain the royal matriarch at her Berkshire home.
