Queen ‘riding her horse again’ at Windsor in ‘remarkable’ health update

The Queen is riding her horse again at Windsor Castle for the first time since September, according to royal sources.

The Queen's passion for horse riding has been reignited after being advised to stop by doctors nine months ago, royal insiders have revealed. 

Her Majesty reportedly gave up the equine hobby last September, having suffered 'discomfort' from sitting on a saddle and steering the reigns of the heavy animal on her summer break at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. The 96-year-old, who recently celebrated her Platinum Jubilee, has since battled a litany of mobility issues that have required her to use a walking stick and miss several high-profile royal events. 

Despite these ongoing health problems, it's now understood that the Queen is back horseriding at Windsor Castle. The exciting update comes just a day after it was revealed that she hopes to travel to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh later this month to celebrate Scotland's annual Royal Week. 

"The Queen has enjoyed being on her horse again," a source told the Sun. "Riding again is a wonderful sign after those worries about her health. To do so at 96 is pretty remarkable." 

The Queen has adored horses ever since she received her first riding lesson at the age of three, just a year before she was gifted her first pony, a Shetland named Peggy. Today, she owns over 100 horses, many of whom are the result of bloodstock breeding. 

"She just loves horses, it's as simple as that. It wouldn't matter what sort, she loves racehorses she rides regularly," the Queen's trusted Racehorse Trainer, Nicky Henderson, revealed in an interview with Sophie Braybrook for the Royal Family Youtube channel. 

"She takes a great interest in what's happening every day. She'll always watch a race if she can."
