The Queen has shared an official statement to confirm that her son, Prince Andrew, has been stripped of his military honors and patronages.

  • The Queen has shared a rare statement addressing the controversy surrounding Prince Andrew following the news that he is set to face a civil trial over sex abuse allegations.
  • The Duke of York's bid to have Virginia Giuffre’s civil case against him scrapped was denied, meaning he is set to face trial.
  • This royal news comes after Prince Andrew confirmed he was stepping back from the royal spotlight in 2019.

Buckingham Palace released a short statement to confirm that the Queen has agreed to have the Duke of York's Royal honors returned to her, adding that he will continue to not undertake public duties and no longer has the right to go by 'His Royal Highness'.

It follows the news that Prince Andrew's plea to have Virginia Giuffre’s civil case against him scrapped was dismissed by a US judge.

Virginia Giuffre claims that she was forced to have sex with Prince Andrew, by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, when she was 17-years-old.

Prince Andrew has explicitly denied the allegations.

Her Majesty also said that Andrew will defend his case "as a private citizen" and will no longer use his HRH title.

"With the Queen’s approval and agreement, the Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to The Queen.

"The Duke of York will continue not to undertake any public duties and is defending this case as a private citizen," the statement from Buckingham Palace reads.
