Princess Eugenie reveals why this year's Trooping the Colour was so special for her

Princess Eugenie

Princess Eugenie joined her family yesterday for the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony, to celebrate the Queen's official birthday.

The 29-year-old appeared alongside her older sister Princess Beatrice, and her dad Prince Andrew on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. She and Beatrice also enjoyed a carriage ride during the parade.

But after the big event was over, Princess Eugenie took to her Instagram to share with her 973,000 followers why this year's Trooping the Colour was so special and significant for her.

She revealed that it was, of course, the first time her husband Jack Brooksbank had got to come along to the event with her.

In a sweet message, alongside photos of the day, she confessed that she and ack her 'honoured' to be able to celebrate her grandmother's big day together.

Eugenie wrote, 'What a special day to celebrate a Birthday. Happy Birthday Your Majesty!

'Today was Trooping the Colour. A celebration that has marked the official birthday of the sovereign for over 260 years.

'This is Granny's 69th time and Jack and I were honoured to be able to celebrate together for the first time. @rafredarrows @grenadier.guards @theroyalfamily #troopingthecolour'.

Of course, it was the first time 33-year-old Jack attended the royal event, given that he's only been an official member of the family since he and Eugenie married back in October 2018.

Boyfriends and girlfriends of the royals generally are not allowed to attend the ceremony, explaining why Jack didn't come along last summer.

Jack, who is a wine merchant, is, like Eugenie, not a working member of the royal family, so will rarely, if ever, perform duties and engagements on behalf of the Queen.

Earlier this year, he did join his wife on a visit to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, to see the work they do. It was an important personal trip too however, as Eugenie spent time there herself in order to correct her scoliosis.

While Princess Beatrice also attended the event, her boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi was noticeably missing. It's likely that Edoardo won't be invited along to significant, ceremonial royal events like this until (or if) he and Beatrice marry themselves, making him an official member of the family.

Many people were however fascinated with Beatrice's choice of outfit for the big day, with many royal fans noticing that it's a dress Sophie, Countess of Wessex, has herself worn previously, to Royal Ascot last year.
