Prince Charles has shared a sweet photo from his childhood to celebrate Prince Philip's 99th birthday.
- The Prince of Wales wished his father a happy birthday on Twitter.
- Philip is not having any big celebrations for his 99th birthday, but will lunch with the Queen at Windsor Castle.
- This follows royal news that Prince Charles admitted his sadness over not being able to see his family amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
What did Prince Charles say about Philip's 99th birthday?
Clarence House's Instagram account posted an adorable black and white picture of Charles as a child with dad Philip in a boat.
A second photograph Charles posted shows the Duke of Edinburgh laughing with his son.
A message accompanied the photos, reading, "Wishing The Duke of Edinburgh a very happy 99th birthday!"
Charles' birthday wishes comes after his admission that one of the parts of lockdown that he’s found so difficult is not seeing his family - particularly his father.
He said, “Well I haven’t seen my father for a long time.
“He’s going to be 99 next week, so yes, or my grandchildren or anything. I’ve been doing the Facetime, it’s all very well but…
“Well it’s terribly sad, let alone one’s friends.
“But fortunately at least you can speak to them on telephones and occasionally do this sort of thing.
"But it isn’t the same, is it? You really just want to give people a hug.”
The Prince of Wales is isolating at his Scottish residence in Birkhall with his wife, Camilla.
While Prince Philip is spending lockdown at Windsor Castle with Queen Elizabeth.
It was revealed earlier this week that Prince Philip won't be having any lavish celebrations for his 99th birthday.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams has revealed how the Duke isn’t a fan of fuss.
He said, “Prince Philip has always been famed for disliking being fussed over.
“When he turns 99 on Wednesday it will be no different, though he would, one feels, appreciate some form of celebration when he turns 100 next year.
“That is something for us all to look forward to."
Happy birthday, Prince Philip!
