Meghan Markle and Prince Harry celebrate their third wedding anniversary this year, though much has now changed since they tied the knot on May 19, 2018. Now having stepped back as senior members of the Royal Family, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are enjoying a quieter life in California. But despite moving away from their former home at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, their fairytale wedding at nearby St George's Chapel is a memory they'll cherish forever.
Whilst some royal fans might have expected to see Meghan in an ornate wedding gown, she instead opted for a simple yet stylish Givenchy dress. Meghan's wedding dress choice "surprised" the Queen, but it was complemented perfectly by Queen Mary's Bandeau Tiara leant to her by the monarch.
With thousands of people watching, it was certainly a day to remember. And when it comes to memorable moments, Meghan’s make-up artist Daniel Martin experienced one of the sweetest, as he's revealed Prince Harry's touching comments about his new wife on their big day.
The make-up professional is a firm favorite among the likes of Olivia Palermo and The Handmaid’s Tale star Elisabeth Moss. Though speaking previously to InStyle, Daniel revealed that doing Meghan’s make-up for her wedding day still stands out as a career highlight. His brilliant look got the royal seal of approval - and not just from the bride.
“I know exactly what she does and doesn’t like,” Daniel told the publication, before going on to share Prince Harry’s sweet comments to him about Meghan after they tied the knot.
“After the ceremony Harry kept saying thank you. He was thanking me for making her look like herself,” he explained.
Prince Harry’s touching recognition of Meghan’s natural wedding look is a testament to Daniel’s approach. He shared that he deliberately chose to accentuate her beauty and steered clear of trend make-up like extreme highlighting.
“The last thing you want [is] to look at your wedding pictures and go, ‘Remember when highlighting was the rage?’” Daniel said. “At the end of the day, you want to look like your best self.”
The Duchess also chose a no-fuss style for her hairdo on the big day. Meghan Markle's hairstylist, George Northwood, has shared the thought process behind her perfectly swept-back locks. “We wanted it to be up because a lot of the time it was appropriate for it to be up, but we didn’t want it to be too formal. We always wanted it to be refined imperfection—that’s what sums her up,” George explained.
Refined imperfection was exactly what Meghan exuded, and her wedding look has continued to inspire royal fans throughout the years. It’s not yet known how she and Prince Harry may celebrate their third wedding anniversary, though with their second baby due later this year, it comes at a momentous time for the Sussex family.
