Meghan Markle made a last-minute wardrobe change on Friday, after noticing her luxurious outerwear could be used for a much better cause.
The Duchess of Sussex attended a pre-game reception for the Invictus Games with Prince Harry in the Netherlands yesterday evening, marking the couple's first joint trip to Europe since their royal withdrawal two years ago. The international sporting event, founded by the Duke in 2014, will see up 500 wounded soldiers compete in 10 different sports at The Hague between April 16 and 22.
The Sussexes arrived at the city's iconic Zuiderpark to excited crowds, including participants of the games and about 50 members of the media, before attending a welcome event hosted by the U.S. embassy. It has since been confirmed by their spokesperson that Harry and Meghan visited the Queen at Windsor Castle before heading down to the Netherlands.
The Duchess wore a white, woolen double-breasted blazer with matching high-waisted pants by Valentino for the occasion, letting her glossy dark hair fall loosely on her shoulders.
She went for full-on coordination with her accessories, teaming the £3,200 power suit with an off-white bag by the iconic Italian designer, skyscraper white heels by Aquazuura, and a golden 'Love pendant' necklace by Sophie Lis. Savvy royal fans have been quick to compare the outfit to Kate Middleton's white suit, which she wore on the Jamaica leg of her Caribbean tour with Prince William last month.
As for Meghan's Invictus Games makeup look, she kept her facial coverage light and instead accentuated her eyes with lashings of her best lengthening mascara.
With so much buzz over the 40-year-old's gorgeous ensemble, it's hard to imagine the look had originally included a totally separate piece.
It's now been revealed that the Duchess had planned to wear a camel-colored coat over the white suit, but decided to shed it when she realized it could be used for a much better function.
According to royal expert, Omid Scobie, Meghan lent the cozy garment to a mother who is participating in the Games, after realizing her baby might be getting cold.
"En route to the venue, the couple were escorted by #TeamNetherlands competitors and family - one of whom was proudly carrying a newborn,” the Harpers Bazaar editor wrote. “Noticing the sudden drop in temperature, Meghan quickly handed over her coat to the mom to help keep the baby warm.”

Footage of the touching moment has since been circulating online, prompting royal fans to shower the former Suits star with praise.
"Mom caring about another mom," one impressed person wrote, while another commented, "I didn't even notice baby until your post! That's very sweet!!"
The Sussexes' Netherlands trip comes just a few weeks after the couple refused to attend Prince Philip's memorial service in London, over concerns for their security in the UK. Prince Harry has claimed to feel unsafe in his native country, having been chased by photographers after his appearance at Princess Diana's statue unveiling in July. He is now suing the Home Office for declining his request to pay for government protection in Britain.
