Women over 50 exercise more and are more satisfied with their sex life than those in their 20s, new research has found.

The study revealed a third of women aged 50-65 are having sex at least twice a week - and 70 per cent go on regular dates.

They also exercise for almost two hours a week - around half an hour longer than their younger counterparts.

The research found older generations feel they are living their best lives.

Half of women over 50 are content with their current relationship status while a quarter are ‘happy’ with their age.

And one sixth feel more confident in how they look now than ever before.

In comparison, just 44 per cent of younger women are comfortable with their love life while only one in 10 are satisfied with their age and self-confidence.

But despite their positive outlook, the older generation strongly believe their demographic is wrongly perceived by society.

The study of 1,000 women aged 50-65 and 1,000 women aged 20-30 was commissioned by DC Thomson Media as they launch Platinum – a new magazine aimed at women over 55.

Editor Ali Kirker, said: ‘Over 50s are still passionately working, enjoying a great love live and going to exciting social events - gone are the days of perceptions around over 50s being knitting and reading’.

The study also found that ‘enjoy dating different people’, ‘do everything you want before having a family’ and ‘don’t get taken for granted’ are among the top pieces of advice the older demographic would give to younger women today.

Four in 10 would also pass on their belief that ‘marriage isn’t the be all and end all’ and almost half advised those in their twenties ‘not to care what others think’.

One third of those polled also said they feel younger than they actually are and the same percentage believe they are more likely to try new things since their milestone 50th birthday.
