The surprising reason Lorraine Kelly has taken her wedding ring off

Lorraine Kelly has admitted she's removed her wedding ring, causing fans to question why the married star has taken it off.

The TV star - whose self-titled show, Lorarine, has been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic - revealed she's had to remove her wedding ring thanks to excessive hand washing as a precaution against COVID-19.

Despite being married to husband Steve Smith since 1992, it sounds like now is the first period of time Lorraine has gone without her ring.

The 60-year-old tweeted, "Anyone else had to take off their wedding ring due to sore hands?? Obviously we need to keep thoroughly washing them as often as possible and I'm actually using up that Xmas pressie hand cream I got given."

Earlier this week ITV made the decision to take Lorraine and Loose Women off air in a bid to protect the staff working on the shows.

In a statement, ITV bosses said, "This decision has been made to minimise the number of staff travelling in and out of our studios and working together on shift at any one time.

"We’re focusing our efforts on providing to viewers the latest news on the rapidly changing situation which aims to offer some stability and continuity in all our lives whilst so many of us are at home right now.

"That’s why we have taken this tough decision to protect our GMB News programme in the morning and keep This Morning on air for as long as possible."

Instead, Lorraine was drafted in to join Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain as his regular co-host Susanna Reid continues to self-isolate at home after someone in her household contracted symptoms.

Lorraine joined Piers between 9-10am on the newly-extended GMB, before handing over to Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield in the This Morning studio.

While Lorraine always proves popular on her usual slot, GMB viewers suggested the broadcaster "might as well go home" after she struggled to get a word in edgeways alongside outspoken Piers.

One viewer tweeted, "Poor #Lorraine - difficult to get a word in with #piersmorgan.”

While another said, “#lorraine she might as well go home.”
