Rebel Wilson's brutal joke about Prince Andrew at the BAFTAs
Rebel Wilson's brutal joke about Prince Andrew and Prince Harry resurfaces ahead of the star's appearance at the BAFTAs 2022

Rebel Wilson's brutal joke about Prince Andrew at the BAFTAs 2020 has resurfaced as the star prepares to once again host the British Academy Film and Television Awards.
In 2020, Rebel Wilson shocked audiences as she made an awkward joke about the royal family. In her speech, the actress mentioned various royals as she jokingly fumbled to remember the name 'The Royal Albert Hall.'
"It is really great to be here at the royal Andrew, uh uh...royal Harry, no...the royal Phil...the royal palace place," said the comedy actress.
This was a particularly close to the bone joke as the news of Prince Andrew's friendship with Jeffrey Epstein and the scandal around sex abuse and sex trafficking that took place decades before, had just been revealed by the press.
The audience gasped after hearing Rebel say the Duke of York's name and when the camera panned to the audience, it was clear that Kate Middleton and Prince William, who were both in attendance, were not particularly impressed with this comment. The royal couple both had small smiles on their faces that looked rather pained as the pair tried to appear as if the comment had not bothered them.

Mentioning Prince Harry in the speech was another sore spot for the royal's as in early 2020, Meghan and Prince Harry ‘stepped back’ as senior members of the royal family and moved away from the UK with their young son Archie.
The couple's decision was met with mixed reactions from the public and royal family and the couple has had a reportedly frosty relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge ever since.

It was clear that mentioning Prince Andrew and Prince Harry was something that Prince William and Kate may not have been prepared for, and this has been a recurring issue for royals who are often the butt of the joke at engagements.
It was revealed that Prince William was fearful about royal family jokes at Royal Variety Performance back in December 2021 and was grateful that the comedians on stage didn't put them in an awkward position by targeting the royals in their speeches
As Rebel Wilson prepares to host the 2022 BAFTA Awards, it is unclear if she will once again make jokes about the royals. The rest of her speech pointed out the sexism in the industry and the lack of women nominees in director categories so it is entirely likely that once again the actress will not hold back.
