Queen honored with new tribute as fans declare that ‘truer words have not been said’ about her

The Queen has been honored with a new tribute and fans were quick to declare that “truer words have not been said” about Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend might now be over but it’s given us many memories to treasure for many years to come. There’s nothing quite like seeing the extended Royal Family come together with the Queen as people across the world paid tribute to her extraordinary reign. And as the Platinum Jubilee year continues, her milestone has also been commemorated in another special way. 

Poet Laureate Simon Armitage has written a deeply touching official poem and now it’s been shared alongside a video of one of the most momentous days in Her Majesty’s life. The Royal Family’s official social media accounts have now posted an inspiring video featuring clips from her coronation back in 1953. 

Accompanying the powerful images on screen are the words of Simon’s “Queenhood” poem.

In this, Simon reflects on the Queen’s dedication to her royal duties ever since she ascended to the throne. Initially focusing on how her girlhood was “left behind like a favorite toy”, this touching poem then goes on to remark upon many of the things so closely associated with the idea of “Queenhood”.

“Queenhood: vows taken among bibles and blades,/beneath braided banners and heralding horns;/the anointment of hand, breast, head, with oil/of cinnamon, orange, musk and rose; promises/sworn in secret under tented gold/so daylight won’t frighten the magic away,” the second stanza proclaims.

The beautiful imagery and meticulously thought out details then build towards a hugely meaningful final line. This pays tribute to Her Majesty’s recent milestone in a way that will resonate for many years to come as it declares, “For generations we will not know such majesty.”

This heartfelt poem captures the truly extraordinary nature of the Queen’s reign and is a lovely way to honor her Platinum Jubilee for generations to enjoy in the years ahead. And it’s certainly captured the imaginations of fans, who seemed incredibly moved by Simon’s words perfectly accompanied by the video.

“‘For generations we will not know such Majesty ‘ ...truer words have not been said 🇬🇧💜👑”, one fan wrote admiringly.

Another echoed this powerful sentiment as they responded, “The most beautiful poem for the most beloved queen 👑❤️”. 

Whilst someone else reflected on a particular line that stood out to them, writing, “‘Queenhood: A long winding procession from Abbey door to Abbey door….’ That will stick with me. ❤️”

“Beautiful, took my breath away. 👏”, a fourth person declared simply.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee poem is written in free verse and Simon previously opened up to The Telegraph about how watching the coronation video on YouTube inspired the Queen's new tribute from him.

“I just got absolutely mesmerized by the whole occasion. I felt at times [as] if a pharaoh was being anointed or something of that kind of high-level language and symbolism,” the Poet Laureate explained. “Every moment was choreographed and freighted with meaning and significance. I became completely transfixed and decided that’s what I wanted to do, to write about the beginning, the origins of this reign.”
