The Duchess of Cambridge arrived on the red carpet donning an impressive green gown by Jenny Packham that was covered in sequins. The Princess completed her look with a matching forest green clutch by the same designer. According to reports, Kate first wore this exact outfit during an official royal tour of Pakistan back in 2019.
This year the Royal Variety Performance was hosted by comedian and TV chat show host, Alan Carr, who made witty remarks at the royals' expense.
The Duke and Duchess were also entertained by many acts including the likes of Rod Stewart, Ed Sheeran, James Blunt, Bill Bailey, Anne-Marie, the cast of Moulin Rouge, and many others.
The Royal Variety Performance was first celebrated in 1912 at London Palace Theatre and was attended by King George V and Queen Mary. The show is now held annually and is attended by different members of the royal family.
In previous years Princess Anne, Prince Charles, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle have all attended the show.
The annual Royal Variety Performance is held in aid of the Royal Variety Charity. A charity of which the Queen is the sole Patron. The money raised from this annual show helps hundreds of entertainers throughout the UK. Specifically, those who need help and assistance as a result of old age, ill-health, or challenging times.

The last time that Kate Middleton and the Duke of Cambridge were in attendance at the Royal Variety was in 2019.
At the 2019 event, the Duchess wore a black Alexander McQueen lace gown with her hair in loose bouncy curls. She paired this look with pearl earrings and a plain black clutch.
Prince William also looked dapper in a plain black tux which was far worlds away from the adventurous velvet look that he wore to the James Bond premiere earlier this year in 2021.
At previous royal engagements, William and Kate have invited their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and their youngest, Prince Louis. However, the royal children were notably absent from this event.
Kate Middleton explained that the Royal Variety Show is one royal engagement that the Cambridge children have been banned from attending. This is because the children are all currently in school and, although they are royals, they still have early bedtimes on Thursday nights!
