It seems that joining the Strictly Come Dancing 2017 line-up isn’t the only exciting news for one of this year’s contestants, as one of the hot favourites for the Strictly Glitterball trophy has announced that they’re expecting a baby!
Aston Merrygold, former star of JLS, has announced that he is expecting a child with girlfriend Sarah Richards.
He revealed the exciting news over on his Instagram account, alongside a sweet picture of him and Sarah sat next to a baby scan, a plastic knife and fork set, and a bundle of pink and blue balloons.
In the background, Sarah and Aston, 29, also revealed that they weren’t yet sure of the sex of the baby, writing on a blackboard in their home, “Could be pink…could be blue”.
And clearly, the singer couldn’t hide his joy when sharing the news, explaining that “words can’t describe how I feel”, over the pair’s impending arrival.
He wrote, “On May 29th 2017 we found out that our lives were going to change forever! This secret has been so hard to keep, but I’m so excited to finally be able to share the news with everybody that me and my beautiful lady @sarahlourichards are going to be parents!!!!!! 😃❤🌍😍 I’m NEVER speechless but words can’t describe how I feel.. All I know is there’s no feeling like it!
“Sar I promise to be the best daddy ever to our baby boy/girl. You are an amazing woman and going to be the greatest mum to our child! Thank you for continuously making me the happiest man ever! I love you❤ hurry up bump we can’t wait to meet you 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃 #suprise #babybump #weaintfindingoutifitsaboyorgirl #notjustuncleastandauntysarahnow #blessed #halfofmehalfofyou #pinkorblue #2018baby #thisseatisreservedforourbaby #jan2018cantcomesoonenough”
The couple’s child is expected to arrive in January 2018, meaning Aston will inevitably be busy with Strictly for much of the pregnancy. The finale of Strictly usually airs just before Christmas, and if the favourable odds of Aston winning ring true at all, it’s likely he’ll be there until the end.
When news of Aston joining the Strictly Come Dancing 2017line-up was announced, some ardent viewers were left concerned over the fact that his background in dancing with boyband JLS might give him an unfair advantage over the other contestants.
However, at the time Aston refuted that his previous experience would give him any leverage over his fellow Strictly celebs, saying “Strictly is ballroom. That isn’t anything to do with what I do.”
