Mariah Carey doubles down on calling Meghan Markle a 'diva'

When superstar songstress Mariah Carey met with the Duchess of Sussex, it was always going to be a glamorous affair. However, Mariah’s use of the term “diva” to describe Duchess Meghan left her “squirming in [her] chair.” After some confusion, Mariah is doubling down and revealing what she really meant.

Despite Mariah Carey’s apparent diva “dig” leaving Meghan “squirming in [her] chair,” Mariah is doubling down and insisting that the Duchess misinterpreted the comment.

The legendary My All chanteuse has made moves to clarify what was really meant by her comment, insisting she only meant it in the most “fabulous, gorgeous, and empowering” meaning of the word.  

On the second episode of Archetypes, Meghan’s long-awaited Spotify podcast which has seen huge success, the Duchess had recorded a voiceover to reveal how she had started to “sweat” after hearing the iconic singer call her a “diva.”

Meghan’s fears arose as she begun to wonder what “nonsense” Mariah might have read about her, leaving her “squirming in [her] chair.”

Mariah, who is known to enter pools while wearing a ballgown, is no stranger to being labelled a diva – and it’s something she wears proudly.

So much so she took to her social media to clear up any misinterpretation of her comments.

“Really enjoyed talking to Duchess and Diva Meghan Markle about ‘The Duality of Diva’,” she wrote.

“Yes! I called her a diva, in the most fabulous, gorgeous, and empowering meaning of the word!!! #Archetypes.”

Mariah’s comments, perhaps, shouldn’t have come as a surprise to Meghan in the first place.

During the episode – which is available to listen to on Spotify and clocks in at around 46 minutes, Meghan was the first one to broach the subject of living la vida diva.

“Maybe you read about the time that she [Mariah] supposedly requested 20 white kittens and 100 doves in London?” the Duchess said. “I don’t know.”

It was only after this that Mariah playfully turned the tables, saying, “You give us diva moments sometimes, Meghan. Don’t even act like…”

Meghan, who sounded aghast, laughed in surprise before responding, “What kind of diva moments do I give you?”

In a voiceover added in post-production, Meghan then says, “You couldn’t see me, obviously, but I started to sweat a little bit. I started squirming in my chair in this quiet revolt. Like wait. What? No. What? How could you? That’s not true. Why would you say that?”
